Oil isn't cutting it for one doe's ears - and seeing she's the best looking one with the largest litters, I would like to nip them if at all possible. I picked up some cat/kitten ear mite treatment for one of our kittens today - can I try that on the rabbit? Or are they different types of mites?

Try either mineral oil or Listerine , either will solve your ear mite problem.

Mineral oil was my last failed attempt, didn't even work as well as the olive oil I was using :? . I forgot about listerine. Can I use citrus flavored or does it have to be the nasty brown stuff (I have citrus already)?

I'm convinced that it is the alcohol content that kills the mites. Rubbing alcohol would probably work just as well.

Make sure to pinch the base of the ear shut and gently agitate it so the alcohol sloshes around in the ear canal for about half minute or so.

Considering you already have the kitty treatment, might as well try it after you google the ingredients to make sure they are rabbit safe. 90% of the mites are of the same variety so chances are good that they'll be killed.

I don't like to use pyrethrins on rabbits

From http://medirabbit.com/EN/Skin_diseases/ ... c/earmite/
The use of over the counter products against mite or ear mites should be avoided. Most contain pyrethrin. While one of the least toxic insecticides for animals and rabbits, pyrethrins/pyrethroids are neurotoxins which lead to continuous "firing" of nerves. Observed problems in rabbits include limb paralysis, seizure, coma, tremor, sometimes death.
but others have used it without problems

Not worth it then b/c she is by far my best mama doe so I don't want to jeopardize that right now ;)

I'll try some alcohol tomorrow and see if that helps any. How bad is it going to sting her if she has scabbing?
