Can rabbits eat asparagus?

I tried to feed mine some asparagus that was too hard to eat, (the bottom ends after a few days) and they wouldn't eat it, however I have fed them the asparagus after it turned into ferns and they ate those right up. I gave them a bit everyday and didn't have a problem with any of them.
