Can my rabbits eat these, certain parts, the fruit, parts of the fruit, leaves?

Currently I feed pellets and hay. I free feed timothy, alfalfa mix hay to all rabbits. Pregnant/nursing does and growouts get free pellets and a hand full of old fashioned oats. Adult bucks are feed a measured amount of pellets. They all get a hand full of redroot pigweed, and oregano leaves.

My goal is to go 100% natural.

Thank you.

Luis.

Luis, rabbits are herbivores not vegetarians... and too much fruit can be very bad for them. If your goal is to go 100% natural, hop on over to the Natural Feeding For Rabbits forum (just below the Rabbit Care forum in the the Index) and start reading. There is a lot of good information there.

I feed my rabbits alfalfa hay, small amounts of whole grain (wheat, oats or barley) and as much fresh green feed (mainly weeds and certain tree leaves) as the season allows. They also have a trace mineral salt block and fresh water at all times. Make all changes to rabbit diets slowly because any sudden change can have disastrous results for the GI tract.

Maggie,

I meant to put this thread under natural feeding, oops. Can you move it there? Also, can rabbits eat the leaves of the above mentioned plants? Thanks.

For the most part, the leaves of those plants are NOT safe for rabbits, although I am no expert on tropicals. Strawberry leaves, yes... Mint is okay except for pregnant or nursing does.

Common weeds as listed in the SAFE PLANTS sticky are far safer and should be readily available in most locations. It would help if you would add your location to your profile.
