This morning our tiny little Holland Lop doe had 7 babies!!! Mom was born 6/27/13 and this is her first "live" litter that we know of. We have had her for about 3 months and was told she had never been bred before.

Her first litter (with us) were 4 kits that all were born dead, so we didn't expect too much this time.

She is in a 24" x 24" cage today. We are thinking that is too small for a mom and 7 babies. Tomorrow we will have a 32" x 24" used cage that we are purchasing from a friend.

1. Should we move mom and kits into a larger cage?
2. If so, when is the best time (right away, or wait till just before the kits are ready to leave the nest box)?

Thank you!

I would go ahead and move them as soon as the new cage is ready.
i would first place the nestbox and anything else they have been using,
Water bottle, feeder etc. in about the same position they were in the
original cage. The kits should go in first and then the Dam.
I really don't believe it will be a problem.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:
