So this is the litter of 10 Cali/NewZs I bought a while ago with their mama for $40. They are getting so big ahh~!
Finally got them all out and lined up for a photo. I thought Cali noses only came in black, but some don't look very black to me. What do you think?

that's because they are cali/nz cross. mine look the same way. some come out looking more like the new zealand side. and some are very lightly marked.

I have no idea, I was surprised they held still so good! XD I never thought it was possible, not after dealing with my bossy pet rabbits.
I'd rub their heads from nose to ear firmly and they'd stay still for a few moments - or at least until I turned around! I had to pat them every time I bent down to get another, but as soon as the 10th one was on it and posed the cage started to bend badly so everyone went up on the hutch. Then as I had 9th positioned forward, the 10th fell off behind the hutch... As soon as I looked back, they were scattered again. haha

They're somewhere between nine and ten weeks, the plan was to eat them. I wouldn't mind keeping one or two for some experiments, though. haha

edit; also, we don't know their weights, don't have a proper scale. At about 7 weeks they weighed between 2.5 and 3 pounds, or so says the rusty old scale.

Cant tell alot from the pics, but they look like good meat rabbits to me. I would keep a couple of them. Nice big litter. Is mom a cal or a new zealand?

Some really do feel like there's more to them than others, the back feels wider and such. Don't think I'll be able to keep any or many... :/
I was told the mom was a Cali and she's got the points like a Cali, but I don't know if she's a halfbreed or if it's just her babies. The breeder had Californians and New Zealands, but didn't seem to keep very good records, so I don't know for sure.

2 Cali does (probably New Zealand in their blood)
1 Cali/NewZ buck (breeder said he was a cross at least)
From another breeder,
2 New Zealand does (white and broken red)
2 New Zealand bucks (white and broken chestnut)
My mom seems to have this thing about the rabbits matching, so we had to have matching pairs. lol
And then I have my 2 pet rabbits of course. <3

Pick out the six with the darkest colors, then separate by male/female...pick the meatiest/best shaped buck and doe and keep those two...

Listen to my Sistah, OAF- she knows of what she speaks! :D

Thanks, Sistah!

And by the way, some of the darker ones are very nice specimens indeed, Nyctra!

I thought they came in black, chocolate and blue/lilac? Or am I confusing the Calis for something else?

They DO actually come in Black, Blue, Chocolate and Lilac....but ARBA only recognizes the Black variety. In Europe, all four varieties are recognized. I have a doe, Big Mama, that used to throw all four colors when I bred her to Big Daddy, the buck I lost to a dog attack.

might anyone be able to post pics of the different colors? or give links to some pics/examples?
i'm wonderin if mine are just light from the heat or what... to me i think they look like a light lilac/very light chocolate mix together... :?

This is Big Blue, he is either Blue or Lilac, hard to tell right now with the heat. If he darkens up with the cool weather I will be able to tell for sure..

This is Little Mama, she is a Black and retains her color pretty well in the heat.
