Could be a steel. But the coat is off a bit. Is he still a junior? If so that might be what's up with the coat as they can still molt to a lighter coat as they mature. One of our bucks is in the process of losing his baby coat and is going through that stage. Also, does he have a white belly? I can't tell from the pick. but he would also need that if he was a steel.

He will be 4 months old on the 14th. He was a lot darker when he was younger. His breeding wasnt really the best match up of color so he probably wont have the proper color. Mom is a fawn with every color in her pedigree, and dad is blue with only blue and black in his ped.

__________ Wed Oct 10, 2012 11:53 am __________

No his beely isnt white, its the same color as his back. So maybe he is a funky colored sandy :hmm:

Well regardless of the makeup, he's still all Flemish, so he's still an awesome big goof, like the rest of the breed :D

That color is called Gold Tipped Steel...

Its an interesting color, dont think its showable but oh well I think he is pretty. :) I am thinking of breeding him back to his mom and see what colors I get from that.

I love Pumpkin! What a pretty color. :) Are the ND's a buck and a doe? 2A1 has such nice short ears that would balance Pumpkin's nicely! I don't know if it is recommended to breed those colors together though.

Yup, pumpkin is a buck, almost 3 months old, and the chestnut is the doe we just bought. She was bred to a broken orange and will hopefully have her first litter on November 3rd!

I was told orange should really be bred to orange to get the best color, but since he has longer ears (common problem in oranges) a nice short eared chestnut would help his kits have shorter ears.

Waaaay back, when we were actually trying to establish orange as a Netherland Dwarf color, we mostly bred to chestnut agouti. I'm not a genealogist, and can't tell you why it worked, but that's where the orange in this area came from.

Suzy and Pumpkin are going to make some pretty babies. Love both their coloring and they are beautifully put together, but that's just my opinion.

Love your Flemish! Beautiful coloring!
