I am not sure if this is the correct location, but thought that since I am raising meat rabbits it would be okay and if not let me know and I can repost.

Lately, my bunny pooh is no longer consistent individual pellets, but 3 or so with what looks like a string attaching them into something more along the lines of beads. I am assuming that this Is maybe hair the females have ingested causing this stringing effect or the ingestion of wood fiber, but wanted to ask if this is common or is there something else maybe going on.

I only feed pellets with the couple times a week of limited amount of alfalfa for digestion and treat.

Thanks for any insight.

I'm not an expert, but I would think that it is because of ingested hair. I would up the hay, feed it freely, and hopefully that will clear up the issue.

Hi Crunch,

that sounds like the beginning of "wool block", the equivalent of hairballs in cats. Feeding hay is very helpful, especially grass hay, since alfalfa can start to ferment in the gut if caught by the fur. Anything containing the enzyme bromelain will help to break up the wool and allow it to pass. Pineapple, papaya, and Adolf's meat tenderizer all contain Bromelain.

Here is a link to a post that goes into more detail:

I will move this to the Rabbit Care forum for you since this problem is not specific to meat rabbits and is a good topic for all owners to be aware of. :)
