Went out to see the bunnies and give them some blackberry leaves...and relax after work. Opened the door and had 4 little ones drop to the ground and run in every direction!! I'm sure I'm not the first to have this happen .......but I'll be opening the pen door much more carefully from here on!!

Went to the shed and got 2 fish nets and after a short chase I had them all back with their mama!!!
But man!!! are they fast!!!!!! :)

LOL! What a way to relax after a hard day's work!

I've never had any really tiny ones get out, but I have a castor doe in a grow out pen that tries to "make a break for it" all the time. Fortunately, my grow out cages have slanted fronts, and she usually just climbs onto the cage next door.

 I have been hand raising my kits and it has paid off totally ... I have several that have "escaped" and all they want to do is come find me and see what I am doing

It's always a surprise to walk into the rabbitry on a calm, quiet, morning and see several of those little scamps "bopping and hopping" around under the cages.

It makes for an interesting chase! I usually corner them behind a bale of straw or behind a handy trash can. A quick grab and then it's looking around at 70+ doors to see which is open/forgotten to be shut the night before! "REGGIE!!!"You did it again!

"Sorry, Pops."

That's why I like inward/upward swinging doors on my cages! They are a pain to open because my rabbits mob the doors- many stand up on them, and wont get down- they practically get lifted up with the door!

With my feeding regimen of hay followed by greens and whatever else is on the menu that day, I like being able to leave the doors unlatched as I feed the different ingredients. Once they have something to munch on most of them stay off the doors!

The dogs keep the rabbits in the cage. Phoenix has been trained to "herd" the chickens back into the coop, she goes first into the bunny barn, just in case. While I'm feeding and the doors are open, she looks for escapees and either makes them jump back into their cages, corals them into a corner and alerts me, or on the rare occasion someone has gotten out of the barn, she has located them for me, then held them down until I could pick them up. She has never hurt a rabbit and calls off when I ask. For the most part, runaways run under the cages into the poop tubs, and I slide them out and put them back into their proper places. Mostly it's the young adventurous bucks.

'skysthelimit' Im glad im not the only one who has trained a dog to herd small animals my border colli/springer spainel "Gracie" is a great help when the lil ones decided to get out.

*although i cant say to much on haveing herding animals i have a mini rex buck that herds my fancy bantams

My SF will hop on the door and pull out as I open it. They are uber friendly...

Thing of it was...the one morning I had three to catch, was with a pen that had a "swinging-in" door. Have a beautiful litter of 12...that are spoiled rotten!! They too, mob the door. Apparently, Reggie forgot to latch the door after their evening portion of hay.

I've got 32 pens that have the "in-and-up" doors. I like them a lot. Except when the "beggars" are being pushy and won't give me room enough to open it.
