Syd is an expensive proven show and breeding buck. In colony he's given me plenty of litters. However I caged him recently and then tried to get him to breed a doe about 3 weeks later on a 77F with cool breeze day. She was all over him and he just laid there. He finally mounted her but being inexperienced she didn't lift and he gave up too soon. After that he laid down with his chin on the lip of the wood frame cages and let the doe hump him for 5 mins before I threw her back in her cage.

Any way to up Syd's energy? He is a slightly older buck having had a great show career and then being used for breeding before I bought him but I know he can produce. Maybe if I put them in a neutral large space since he bred in colony fine? Add some boss or oats? I don't want him to get fat. He's about the right weight now. Just leave her in his 48x30" cage for a couple days? Can you give rabbits viagra?

It might be since he was previously running around that he is out of shape. A bigger pen and some AVC might do the trick. How old is he?

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing as Stone Soup Farm - he was previously in a colony, so probably running around a lot, could be he's put on weight and just can't really be bothered with this whole breeding business!

3 years this month so he's not real old. I've had success with bucks up to 5 years old. He actually has more than enough legs for a GC if I wanted to register him and my does are a little high strung so his genetics are important to me.

I'd put him on a diet, and get him a large cage he can run around in. I had good luck giving my boy Snow a few older but sexually immature rabbits(8-12wks) to chase around, which got him moving and helped him lose some weight.

Akane said he looks right on weight so a diet might not be necessary. I think he may just need more exercise, whatever way you get it. Ginger and AVC are suppose to help stimulate the libido for both bucks and does. I think you can put ginger in a bottle bottle to get an infusion.
