So there is alot of broccoli in the fridge lately (Don't ask me where all this broccoli came from, I don't even know) And I was wondering, Is broccoli safe for rabbits? I think it would cause them alot of gas, and not be very good, but hey, I had to ask. So is there broccoli on the menu tonight for the buns? :p

It's a member of a whole family that you have to be very careful with. Some people have managed to feed it and other members of the family of Brassicas to rabbits, starting with small amounts, and gradually working up. If your rabbits are not used to some of the other members of the family, then you would need to feed broccoli very, very sparingly and carefully. :)

You're right about the gas. Rabbits can neither belch or pass gas (to put it delicately) so you have to be careful of bloat. I feed cabbage leaves and collards but I started them on it slowly so the proper intestinal bacteria could build up. I'm still careful about the amount I give them at one time but once they can tolerate it, it's very nutritious. Being high in both calcium and protein it's especially good for nursing mothers. Broccoli is another matter. It can cause more gas than the leaves will.

i agree actually with you cause they are lagamorphs(spelling?) like horses and horses can pass gas. they cant puke though i know that. but id still be careful with what u feed them. but when i think about it unlike most animals rabbits most of the time dont bloat when they die.
