Hello could any body reply back with the following
* the age you breed your bunnies at with the best results
*the breed of your rabbit
I love to hear about Lionheads!

Because....

I am a Proud breeder of double maned VC/VM and BEW lionheads and the beautiful colors of Harlequins, magpies, broken Charlies, and many torts. And own Warm Cozzy Lions Rabbitry. :bunnyhop: Lionheads are my favorite breed of rabbits but have had experience with Holland Lops. The reason I have asked is I have gotten a great Harlequin VM doe that was born February 21,13. I Have posted her on my website as a future brood doe do to her pedigree standard and color and have gotten more then 7 request for one of her kits. I will be breeding her to my Teddy/wooly gene BEW lionhead buck. But the question is could I breed her at 4 1/2 months to 5 months old? With out difficulties? I would like a personal opinion.

Hi Ilovecharmz!

I don't think I have welcomed you to RabbitTalk. :?

We are glad to have you here, and I know Bad Habit in particular will be very excited because she raises LionHeads too! :D

I think you will find the answers you are looking for in this thread:

It depends on your rabbit. :) Does that answer your question? ;)

But no really, it does count on the rabbit. I had a doe that was about 4 months old when I first noticed how dark her vent was getting and how she lifted every time I touched her lower back! I did not breed her at the time because I didn't have the cage space for bunnies right then, but I am pretty certain that I could have bred her between 4-5 months of age with no problems.

I would have no problem breeding a 5 month old (dwarf) doe if she was in good condition and acting like she was ready for it (the kits will be born when she is 6 months). It is very dependent on your rabbit though, and what you are comfortable with.

Wishing you the best! :clover:

Thank you bunchez! I was scared because i thought it would be wrong but its only wrong in some peoples eyes. I Loved her thread and it gave me courage and hope in breeding her young . She is beautiful and their will be beautiful popples! Lol The father is triple maned giving most of his kits beautiful coats!
Im just as glad to be here. I would love to hear about your guys rabbitrys! Lionheads are a joy to have.

I think you meant to say Doublemaned, meaning he is carrying two copies of the mane gene? They can only carry one or two, not three. :)

You can easily tell the DM kits because they are naked on the sides at first. Bad Habit just posted some pics of her DM kits here:

We live for pictures!

I resize mine in Paint. Here are a couple tutorials on different methods that should help you:

No, actually I meant triple maned its simpler to say triple maned other then he has wooly/teddy gene. In my opinion  I think lol
Even though he has the wooly gene he doesn't pass it on but giving his kits beautiful double maned coats. Breeders come to me just because I have him to breed with their does because he improves their show quality litters coats and wool :D.
and thank you he has beautiful double maned kits. All of my kits are double maned except my wooly gene lionhead Charmz.

Well, I might be a monster, but I have some meat mutts that I raised up. Two sisters born Nov 17. They were within a few ounces of their mother by 4 months and one had a larger dewlap than her mother at 4 months. I bred the more developed of the two sisters when she was 126 days old! That was on 3/23 and the nest box goes in with the next couple days. She knew just what to do when she met Handsome Hank! She snuggled him and she ran around him once or twice and then lifted right in his face!

She is definitely acting pregnant now... she is trying to pull fur from her dewlap, but it is just funny, it just comes up with her mouth as she pulls and is hopping around with her dewlap in her mouth. She seems happy and healthy and I take this behavior as a sign of a potentially good mother. Her sister's dewlap is just filling in and I will be breeding her next week.

These are the first two does I have raised myself to breeding age. So to answer, 4-5 months for does :) Their brother will also breed next week.

No your not a monster! Lol like the thread said she was called many things but had the best results that young. I AM going to breed my doe June 22,13 she will be 4 months old well that is if shes ready to if not I will wait a couple weeks but im sure she will be ready by then. Please let me know how well she does ok?! And post pictures!
Im excited to hear the results!

Yes your thread inspired me not to be affraid of what people would say about me if I bred her so young Im going to breed her June 21-28 depending what day she will be most ready. I breed lionheads what rabbits do you breed?

New Zealands and Silver Foxes.

I've been called some very mean and rude things. Oh well. Their choice. Each person has to decide for themselves. If someone wants to breed at an older age and has success with it, more power to them :)
