So eventually I'll have 4 new additions to Crazy Fools Rabbitry (my otter does may have just been born!) and I've decided to go with a theme for ALL my buns not just the new arrivals. I would like famous crazy people names to fit with the rabbitry name but none were iconic enough to catch my fancy. So I thought, "What about famous insane asylums?!" looked those up and... boring. Terrifying histories but most are simply named after their towns.

In conclusion now I'm mulling about chewing on ideas and spitting them out and thought I would share for fellow brainstorming or name thieves.

Theme: Wines -Great for both sexes.

Riesling
Chardonnay
Sauvignon
Shiraz
Merlot
Cabernet sauvignon
pinot noir
Zinfandel
Moscato
Muscadine
etc...

Theme: Great minds -Overly male dominated list

Fibonacci
Pythagoras
Newton
Archimedes
Pascal
Marie Curie
Galileo
Tesla
Euler
Hooke (for an overly bouncy bun!)
etc...

Theme: Wild West - Pretty good mixture of doe & buck names

Annie Oakley
Poker Alice
Belle Starr
Calamity Jane
Sacagawea
Della Rose
Bonnie & Clyde
Billy the kid
Buffalo Bill
Jesse James
Dynamite

Wild Storm Rabbitry
Sweetgrass Rabbitry
Buckshot Belle’s Rabbitry
Bandit’s (insert something here) rabbitry
Bandit’s Lair Rabbitry
Rustler (insert name here)'s Rabbitry
Gunsmoke Rabbitry

Theme: The International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet

Foxtrot
Alpha
Tango
Zulu
Delta
Whiskey
Sierra
etc...

Theme: Firearms

Colt
Wesson
Ruger
Remington

Magnum Maggie? Haha.
Sig
Kimber
etc...

Theme: Music

etc...

What themes have y'all thought up? Any suggestions for a Crazy theme? (I suppose I could do something like Lunatic Lucy, Bonkers Betty, and Screwball Sam.. just doesn't have the same appeal as some of the other themes listed above.)

For some reason, I absolutely love this idea! I think I'm gonna steal this list for my next litter, if you don't mind.

You're BRAVE, Crazy.
Is it bravery or is it... insanity? :p

Whatever Maggie, we all know you're actually a gunslinger from Texas. Secret is out!

To be perfectly honest... it took me a good minute to figure out what you thought was so funny. "Okay, glad someone liked it! ... ... ... OH! MaggieJ. Magnum Maggie. Hahaha.... I get it." I suppose I wasn't firing on all cylinders last night!

Heck yeah, go for it! I was almost thinking about using this as a cycling name for ALL my litters. That way they do have names for differentiation, but not unique for attachment issues. For example, the 5 kit litter from Magnum Maggie (lol) could be M-Alpha, M-Bravo, M-Tango, M-Foxtrot, M-Zulu, and the litter of 3 from Calamity Jane would be C-Charlie, C-Delta, and C-Whiskey. If I end up keeping a kit they would get a new name to fit with whatever theme the adults have. Just a thought, would make naming the litters (which I always seem to do even if I'm planning on eating them all) really easy.

See, I looked into that as well but I'm just not enough of a movie/TV buff to even know THOSE names you mentioned. I grew up without television and now that I'm an adult I'm not very TV motivated (except I'm hooked on MacGyver!). My Husband is always saying, "What?! You've never seen that?! We have to watch it..."

Right? This is pretty much what I was thinking that even if I don't end up using any from these lists it'd at least start someone brainstorming for themselves. Thanks for adding to the lists!! Here's one that's sort of unique to me and my experiences but may get other people thinking about the places they hold dear to their heart. I lived up in Alaska and worked on a salmon seiner from the age of 15 to 20 during the summers and those were the best summers of my life. Therefor this is certainly a list to consider for myself.

Theme: Alaskan Bays

Prudhoe
Kamishak
Yukatat
Bristol
Cordova
Kachemak
Tutka
Seldovia
Aialik
(I also fished in Seward but I wouldn't wish that name on any bun, hated fishing in Seward. :x)

Here are a few other lists I toyed with but ended up dismissing.

Theme: Trees

Aspen
Ash
Elder
Hawthorn
Juniper
Magnolia
Fir
Elm
Sequoia
Birch
Oak
Willow
Sycamore
Maple
Hickory
Holly
Cypress
Juniper

Theme: Herbs & Spices

Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Clove
Paprika
Ginger
Saffron
Basil
Fennel
Sassafras
Rosemary
Thyme

Theme: Apples

Fuji
Gala
Honeycrisp
Braeburn
Jonagold
Crispen
Jazz
Courtland
Baldwin
Macintosh

Theme: (Seeds &) Nuts (Crazy? Nuts? Wacky? Hmm..)

Almond
Pistachio
Walnut
Hazelnut
Pecan
Macadamia
Acorn

Theme: Cookies

Snickerdoodle
Chocolate Chip
Macaroon
Gingersnap
Gingerbread
Biscotti
Shortbread
Thin mint
Crisp
Samoa
Fortune
Do-si-do
Pinwheel
Sugar
Speculaas
No-Bake (haha)

Theme: Candy Bars

Snickers
Hershey
Nestle
Skor
Twix
Reese
Toblerone
Whatchamacallit
Heath
Butterfinger
Kit Kat
Babe Ruth

A theme I always keep in mind goes along with my rabbitry name. Sagebrush "Altemisia". I stick with the scientific names and rotate from which group depending on the litter size.

Came up with another one:
Winter/Christmas names
Cocoa
Snowdrop
Snowflake
Frosty
Rudolph
Holly
Ivy
Mistletoe
Tinsel

Scientific names? Post a few examples? I googled Altemisia and it didn't turn up much and the search engine kept trying to ask, "Did you mean Artemisia?"

Ooh, weather patterns! I was thinking about this one at the back of my mind but it got shoved into a corner and I forgot to look into it further.

Well the hubby nixed the Winery theme, "Too cliche" the Great Minds theme, "Too long on the tongue" and even the NATO Alphabet, "Now that's just silly" but he does like the Wild West or the Firearm theme, go figure right? Maybe I should make a football theme and he'd go wild...

To be truthful I find him not liking the NATO Alphabet to be silly seeing as he IS in the military and has been for the last 14 years. I suppose he doesn't want even more military jargon in his backyard hopping around, lol.

Well, we did have the spice girls since we didn't keep any bucks from that year. Cinnamon, Sage, Ginger, Pepper, Basil, etc. There was the Flower year, too. Petunia, Rose, Jasmine, Plumeria, Marigold, etc.
That year was followed by the Qualities of Light year, I think it was. Sparkle, Twinkle, Moonlight, Midnight, Ember, Sunny, etc. There was also the Famous People year, but I get to designate who's famous and who's not. So there's Suzie named after Suzie Sagrue who wrote "The Nervous New Owner's Guide To Angora Rabbits". Joey is from someone on Maui who has the same straightforward cheeky attitude and works as an extra on Hawaii 5-0, so that's famous enough for us. One doe is Nicky from when she met Nicky Epstein, who is a famous knitter. Last year the bunnies were named after Atmospheric Conditions. We have Myste, Phinneus Phogge, Sirocco, Sandy Storm and Gayle.

Not sure what the name theme should be this year. We've not had any litters for awhile, but now they have new organic feed, maybe that will improve things to the point that we will need all sorts of names for them. Hopefully, anyway.

Love the Borg bunny!

I never watched ST Voyager when it aired, but it's on Netflix now and I'm really enjoying it.

That Borg bunny got me thinking...
My wife and I were adopting retired racing greyhounds for a while, years ago. Part of their ear tattoo designation was, litter registration number and pup number within the litter. Kind of like, "Seven of Nine."

"This unit's designation is Four of Six. We are Borg. You will scratch behind this unit's ears. Resistance is futile." :borg:

My fingers often type faster than my brain registers sometimes.
A few examples: (I would use the second part of the name ie: "Annua" for a doe)
Artemisia abrotanum L.–southernwood, southern wormwood, slovenwood, abrotanum, old-man, lad's love
Artemisia absinthium L.–grand wormwood, absinthium
Artemisia adamsii Besser
Artemisia afra Jacq. ex Willd.–African wormwood, African sagebrush
Artemisia alaskana Rydb.–Alaska wormwood
Artemisia alcockii Pamp.
Artemisia aleutica Hultén–Aleutian wormwood
Artemisia amoena Poljakov
Artemisia annua L.–annual wormwood, sweet sagewort, sweet Annie
Artemisia araxina Takht.
Artemisia arborescens–tree wormwood
Artemisia arbuscula Nutt.–little sagebrush, low Sagebrush, black sage
Artemisia arctica Less.–boreal sagebrush
Artemisia arctisibirica Korobkov
Artemisia arenaria DC.

Edit to add a picture of Artemisia annua:Artemesia Annua.jpg

Oh I like this idea! Sort of like a secret almost, the names have a meaning to you and your family but for outsiders it's just another name. Crossing my fingers you'll start producing some more litters soon!

I saw it on Netflix and have resisted watching it, I'm such a Picard fan I never really cared for Deep Space Nine though I could sympathize with the ferengi about ear massages... But if you say it's good I'll have to give it a shot! I'm pretty sure I've never even seen one episode.

Oh! Yeah! That definitely makes sense, how neat! I didn't know there were so many different types of sage! (Or is it that sage is Artemisia but Artemisia isn't necessarily sage?)

Well the hubby and I decided, we're going with the Wild West theme for our rabbits and our three keepers got new names!

We have Buffalo Bill
Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 3.57.42 PM.png

Poker Alice (also Alice in wonderland has a white rabbit..? Seemed to fit!)
Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 3.59.27 PM.png

and Della Rose! ^_^
Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 4.00.35 PM.png

With this theme in mind I have ALSO decided to rebrand the entire rabbitry. I’ve never been very attached to Crazy Fools, it’s more my husband’s concoction and I’ve just been rolling with it. Well the rabbits are definitely more my thing than his so I figured I’m going to go ahead and continue with the western theme and rename the rabbitry. My husband and I are chewing on a few names right now, and we've narrow it down to two, obviously the one I like best will get chosen but I like to let him think he's got some say in the name. I've already got a logo idea, and once we decide on the rabbitry name I'm going to go ahead and make a website and change my FB rabbitry page up.

I'm also adding a bunch of western themed rabbitry names to the original post since this whole topic is about lists and themes.... :)

If you really loved the rabbitry name Desert Rose (too bad it's taken), you might consider Dusty Rose. It's not really western, perhaps, but it kind of has that feel to it. Since it's also a pretty colour, you might be able to use it on business cards or signage. Just a thought . . .

Dusty Rose Rabbitry, man I really do like that one! What a great suggestion! It certainly does have that feel to it. My husband seems to be pretty adamant about leaning away from the "flowery" names but this is really nice... I'm totally going to shoot it by him. (Spoiler alert, he didn't like Desert Rose either.)

ooh i really like the dusky/dusty rose names!! :) i suppose i can understand the part about not wanting to be labeled under a flowery name - but the names are very pretty regardless.

Well no surprise, he nixed it. Excellent suggestion though, now I'm sad we aren't going a rose route, lol. But I suppose there's quite a few "rose" rabbitry names, I know the breeder I'm getting my Rex stock from is Rose River so that may have been a little close for comfort for her, lol. We've decided on a name and I'm updating the website. (I have a website half finished that I never published, so now I'm updating and will publish when it gets done.) Dusty Rose Rabbitry... ahhh.... well at least I can say ours is decently unique, lol. So when the website is finally done I'll switch everything over and release the new name. :)

Never mind, Crazy, we had fun playing with the idea  . . . and tormenting your poor hubby.

Looking forward to hearing what you finally chose . . . Suspense will be building until your website's unveiling. :p
