Sorry total newb here. My mini lop, Blossom, just delivered, I think. There is a fair amount of blood both in the nest box and on my rabbit but no baby bunnies anywhere. Should I be worried?

Was she at or around Day 31? In other words, full term?

She may have kindled and if the kits were stillborn, she may have eaten them. This is her way of cleaning up and it is different from a doe that kills live kits.

Alternatively, she may not have kindled yet but be about to do so. Some blood is not a reason for major worry, but do keep an eye on her. If she continues to bleed, then I'd be worried.

Does often benefit from a calcium boost at kindling time. Fruit-flavoured TUMS antacid are calcium in an easy to administer form. Offer her one or two, depending on her size.

The lawn weed shepherd's purse (Latin name Capsella bursa-pastoris) has a long history of use to stop bleeding, particularly bleeding from internal organs. It was traditionally used for women who bled too much in labour. It is also a safe plant to feed to rabbits and if you can find some, by all means give her a good handful.

Yes, she was full term. Thank you for your help. I'll offer her a tum in the morning.

-- Tue Aug 02, 2016 11:00 am --

She gave three cute kits this morning, one solid and two broken.

She may just be having a little bit harder of a time having them. I have had kits born on 2 seperate days, back to back, 12 hours or so apart. She may be done but don't be surprised if there end up being more! Congrats on the 3 you got, they sound super cute!
