Such different and beautiful markings! I've only ever really seen solid colors in Hollands around here or simple broken colors not the beautiful harlequin type. I love them!

I love these colors! and have started a Lionhead Magpie program ~~ not showable, but very popular :)
They sprouted up in my BEW program, so after a while I just went with it, lol.

Hubby is a complete enabler! I am now working on 3 different programs - Show, BEW, and now Magpie/Hari
Soooo.... lots of rabbits over here, not that I'm complaining
Time will tell if I get it right... markings aren't perfect yet, but these are only the first generation.

Question...

color.jpg

There is a definite line of shading along the orange side of Cadbury...
What could be the cause of that? I promise it's not light or shadow causing it. I can get some more pics if you want...

I don't know what causes it, but I see that same lighter shading on many of my kits. It has a wave shape extending over the hip, doesn't it?

We have one rabbit with that shading, only it's darker. Her particular color pattern is called "sallander": post253327.html#p253327.

It's interesting that the sallander "pattern" and the harlequin pattern are both present, seems like from the other thread that they are separate? Hmmmm.... If I kept back this kit and bred to a solid doe, maybe see more sallander and harli?

...Excuse me while I lose myself in the rabbit hole of color genetics... It may be a while before I resurface.

Sallandar and harlequin, along with non extension, tort, agouti, and chinchilla coats all show that wave patten. There may be some I missed.
It doesn't mean that they have the same genes at all.
I've always just assumed it had something to do with the way the fur lays, guard hairs, or perhaps their body shape.

What you have there is a black jap and a black magpie.
