Lost two litters in January, total of 22 newborn kits. Was very happy to see these two litters this morning, fat, warm, and happy :D Great feeling to have popples in the barn again :rabbit-hop2: :rabbit-hop1: :rabbit-hop2:

These two are great moms, shouldn't have any worries.
I'm not sure what happened last month  Black Betty was a fabulous first time mom, but no fur pulled on the second litter. It was her daughter, Starlight's, first litter. No fur pulled for her either. I brought both the litters in, supplement fed them, but couldn't get either mom to nurse them and gave up. My snakes got a good stockpile in the freezer out of it
We did have crazy warm temps all winter, the trees were actually starting to bud as it was 35-40 degrees. Then BAM, two days of below zero and single digits :( It had warmed back up to 25 the next day when they gave birth, but I think the crazy ups and downs ruined it??? Several fellow rabbit addicts, that had bred at our December show, also lost litters. Otherwise I would guess it was something specific to my barn.

I am wondering if the reason good mothers are not feeding litters or pulling fur is because they know something is wrong with the kits? Kind of like how a mother cat or dog will push pups or kittens away from the others when they know the baby will not survive.

I just had a doe who was a great mother for her first two litters just completely fail to pull fur on her third litter. I have no idea why. We have had some crazy up and downs here too. It's swinging from almost 40 to below zero almost overnight.
