I have 2 flop x NZW girls and was hoping to find a buck to breed them with. I think we are going to start with dog food, but may move up to us eating them.
The meat rabbits avaliable in my area:
Satins(love them and will get one a pet/breeder one day!)
Rex
NZW
Cali's
Flemish giants
What buck would be the best?
I like the look of the cali's(I have a soft spot for pointed animals). It's hard I'd like to find something soon, so he's mature for some spring litters.

Right now my only 2 bucks are a 2lb lionhead and a 2lb 12 week old rex type mutt, who will only get 4-5lbs full grown. So too small for meat right?

As they say, all rabbits are made of meat, LOL. That being said, you'll tend to get faster growth out of breeds meant to be meat. Why not check them all out and get the one that's nearest breeding age for you? If you're breeding for meat, I'd avoid the Flemish, though...they grow really big, but a lot of that "big" is bone...and they tend to grow the bones first, so you'll have to feed them much longer before butchering.

My first choice would be NZW, second choice Cal.

Someone here mentioned that they thought the best ratio of Flemish in a doe was either 1/4th or an eighth. :?

One breeder about an hour away has both cali and NZW. I sent him an email ;) The add is selling pregnant females, but it does say they do have bucks avaliable. So i'll see what they have and go from there.

So no flemies! Maybe as a pet only(my Hubby said no more lol, he should know me by now, 14 years and I haven't changed). I found an add for Flemie x checkered giants, but I'll pass on them.
