A quick question on those who have both the 5-1/2" feedsaver as well as a regular j-feeders. Bass lists the capacity of the 5-1/2" feedsaver at 60oz, three times the listed 20oz capacity of the normal 5-1/2" feeders. Is this accurate? It seems a little far-fetched that it would have that much greater capacity.

With new cages on the way from Klubertanz I will need to make my final decision on feeders. For the doe cages I am leaning towards (2) creep feeders and either (1) large-capacity 9-1/2" to 11-1/2" j-feeder or (2) 5-1/2" feeders (to match the 5-1/2" feeders I would have on the buck cages). However if the feedsavers actually hold that much I may just go with the one 5-1/2" feeder instead of two. I have no problem with the idea of buying a couple of different types to try out, it is just I would rather not make unnecessary cuts on new cages!

Interesting. I guess for the moment I can plan on the one 5-1/2" feedsaver and two creep feeders in doe cages, one 5-1/5" in the buck cages and probably two 5-1/2" in growout cages. Or perhaps I should make the growout and doe cages identical with two feeders so I can move the doe out instead of the kits (allowing me to do a deep clean of each cage after each cycle). Plus grumpy's nifty diy hay racks of course!

Decisions, decisions.

I do save a lot of wasted feed with the "feed saver" feeders, over what I experienced with J feeders. but- sometimes you will have a doe who is a scratcher, and something must be done... but-- I have "cured " most of them by only giving them a small amount of feed for a week, and letting them fill up on hay, - so-- when they scratched the feed out, they had none, - so far, all but one changed her ways, -the "other one" was "repurposed" .
