I have a litter of 2-week old kits, and within the past couple of days, three out of the five kits have suddenly experienced hair loss.
The hair loss is focused primarily on the crown of their heads and small areas on the hind legs. It leaves behind flakey and notably itchy patches.
I can't quite discern whether this is caused by fur mites or if it's expression of the astrex gene....
In regards to mites, the majority of information I've researched states that the patchy areas usually originate behind the ears, on the back, nose, and toes. However, these kits still have a full amount of hair in those areas.
If it is mites, is it safe and wise to treat mom with Ivermectin and assume that in turn, it'll treat the kits?
If it's the astrex gene, would the bald areas still exhibit flakes and itchiness?
Thoughts or experiences with something like this, please.
