I have a litter of 5 week 3 day old rabbits one of the babies can't walk. She was fine yesterday now if she falls over on her side she can barely sit back up again- once she sits back up she just stays in that one spot. Could she have injured her back? or do you think it is something like E. cuniculi ? (her head isn't tilting) Should I take her out of the cage with her other siblings do you think - is it very contagious?

Well, by morning the baby was in much worse condition, could only blink and move whiskers a little so I think it is E. Cuniculi and its in a coma. I would take to vets if I thought there was anything they could do but it would probably not make it through the car trip. I bought some Panicur fairly cheaply through Ebay incase it ever happens again. Articles I read said ussually it only effects one kit in a litter, and that its believed 50% of rabbits carry it without showing symtoms or becoming sick. Also said it is usually passed to young by mother - so maybe I will treat my Does with Panicur before breeding them. No other rabbits have had anything like it in my small herd of 12. I've had I think 6 litters over the last 2 years and this is the first time its happened so maybe it won't keep happening. The one that got it was the runt and 3/4 the size of the others so maybe she had a weaker immune system that made her vulnerable. Very sad :( for the baby.

Poor little thing. :(

I'm sorry Squidpop. I hope it doesn't happen again. :clover:
