I had a californian mother have her second litter with me on the wire. Her first litter was in the box and she did good. But this time for what ever reason she decided not to use the box. But it was a warm night. IT was a good thing too. She had 9 babies in total. 2 were dead and the rest was on the wire and 3 were on the ground. Still alive. She wasnt in a baby saver wire cage . I didnt think anything of it as she had the other litter in the box. Boy i got a shock and still am. Now the baby that was on the wire had there heads throught the side of the cage . I had a very hard time to get there heads back in . I did do it. but one was really hard. I dont know if those ones are going to survive because i had to really push and pull. I am surprise that they can even get there big heads through it,being so hard to get them back again. What are the chances of them being Ok after this. I never has survive babies on the wire. ALways dead ones.

my last few litters have been on the wire, one was in a stacker that I forgot to put the baby saver wire in, kits all over the floor, under the cage. one was in a cage with baby saver wire, four inches up, but somehow it wound up in the poop tray under the cage. they survived just find, so glad I found them first and not the dogs.

I had that happen once- it was a litter of four, two had their heads stuck, and two were on the wire. They were very hard to get out of the wire and had pressure marks on their heads. :( One of the stuck ones was already dead, but three were barely alive. Only one made it, and it wasn't the one that had its head stuck.

Never had a stuck baby not survive just because I had to pop it back out. Next time you can grease em up or cut/bend the wires away and patch it later.

so every stuck baby that you had . All survived?I cant cut that many holes in the cage. I didnt even think of grease them up....I was in a panick mode at that time. ALl i can think of was getting to the heat.

I warmed them up in the dryer, and they started moving around a bit more, but I'd say they were dead within half an hour. Even one of the ones that wasn't stuck. I think they had just been cold for too long, and the one that lived was probably born last.

If yours are still alive, maybe they will make it.

That was how I felt, too. I guess some type of lubricant needs to be out in the BunnyBarn from now on.

I went out and checked on them and it has been 3 hours now and they are all alive and sleeping. So there is a good chance they will make it. I guess it might take a few days of the one that i had to really squeeze its head. But i think the rest will be ok. THanks everyone.
