So, what does everyone use to de-worm their bunnies?
How much? How often? Is it safe for mommies and babies?

Fill us in...... :gossip:

I haven't wormed mine, but I do feed them Diatomaceous Earth at the rate of about a cup per 50lbs currently.

I haven't done it, but I've read that the most common dose is a tablespoon in their food/water for 4 weeks. (that's if you notice worms) Although, that was for dogs, not rabbits...

Worms aren't all that common in rabbits. If your cages are up off the ground it isn't likely they'll ever be exposed to them. There is more chance with colonies but even there it isn't that big a problem.

Update- now I have wormed mine.

I found pinworms in two of sixteen rabbits we butchered a while back, so wormed the whole herd.

I used Ivermectin Sheep Drench at the rate of 2mls per 8lbs 6ounces of rabbit. It was kind of tricky figuring out the proper dosage because the syringe had mls marked in tenths, and with odd weights of rabbits measured in 16 ounce increments... so if in doubt, I bumped the dose up. The lethal dose of ivermectin is very high, so a little extra was preferable to not enough.

I worm twice a year with safeguard. I have my rabbits out in runs all the time and we constantly have raccoons, skunks, fox, coyotes, loose dogs, and things like mice through the yard at night. So I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've never found any worms and I prefer to keep it that way.
