I have Californians if that matters. My bucks went sterile during our harsh summer and still no kits out of the does. I need to double check his age, but I believe he is only two. Thanks,

Joe

I've read that bucks can breed til the day they die, but my 5 year old Holland buck is definitely sterile. I started trying to breed him this spring so heat sterility was not the issue. He's proven too, but it had been a few years.

At two, he should still have plenty of life left in him. I don't know how much, though. I'm sure somebody will have a better answer. :)

I know that if it has been a long time since they bred, it can take several breedings to get babies. I just experienced that here.

My Fawkes' father is 10 years old. Still going strong, helping to produce quality kits. I guess it depends on the individual buck on how long they will help produce?

Hope your buck comes out of his "heat" sterility.

Karen

My oldest buck was seven and he was still going good with breeding! But not sure if it's true or not, but I heard if you don't keep them activly breeding at least once or twice a year they could become sterile, kind of like use it or lose it. Now don't quote me on that, I heard that from an older rabbit farmer.

I don't think they ever stop. They can temporarily go sterile if you don't use them and you have to sort of flush the system and get things going again but does are the same. If you don't breed them they can become very hard to breed.

Cool! That's great to know!

Definitely made me feel really good knowing that Fawkes has a great opportunity for a very long life with us if Dad hit 10 years old and was still "making babies".
