Absolutely! As you mentioned, as long as they haven't been treated with pesticides (sprayed, granular, etc.).

FYI, my roses never make it into the rabbit cages........because if you didn't know, ROSES ARE DELICIOUS. My favorite flavor ever is ROSE!!!! Rose turkish delight is a special treat, but just eating a rose is pretty awesome. :)

Do you eat the canes, too, Kyle? 'Cause rabbits love them, right down to the thorns!

I did not know that roses are delicious.

Kyle I did not know that but that is very interesting! :) Have you ever tried a daylily? They are supposed to be good too, especially fried. :p
Out of curiosity, have you ever had a "Rugosa Rose" We've had some in the family for 30 years. Its one of the species roses and smells oh so good! :)

I tryed a rose once. I guess i is an acquired taste.
I know my rabbits have acquired the taste for them, they never stay in their pens
very long. they eat every thing, then look for more.

LOL no, I limit my rose consumption to the petals. ;) It isn't as tasty "in the raw" as it is if you sweeten or "candy" them. Needless to say, rose in tea with some honey added is AMAZING! :)

Never ate a daylily though! Are they really edible? My dad has a lot coming up in the garden...I may have to liberate some.

Never heard of Rugosa roses...

Try rose-infused honey! (Fill a jar loosely with rose petals, then fill with honey, cover and let steep for several weeks. Yum!) Roses have a lot of medicinal uses, as well.

Yup! Just make sure they're daylilies and not oriental or Easter lilies.

Here y'all go:

Rugosa roses (and some others) produce "rose hips" which are very high in vitamin C. They are good for humans -- and rabbits I believe. My rabbits won't even wait for me to hope their cages to give them roses -- they pull them through the wire!

Yes, please be certain you have day lilies (Hemerocallis) and not some other type of lily. Day lilies have many different colours and shapes but they are all edible.

Shoot, I think my dad's "daylilies" aren't the real deal. :(

Oh hey! I love rosehips. Dried, they're awesome in tea and yes, good for you, too! Now that I know what they grow on, I may have to find this "Rugosa" at the local nursery and have one of my very own...

Kyle, post a picture if you can showing both the flowers and the foliage. We'll try to help you out. Day lily flowers can be really fancy and frilly or quite plain. In the past 25-30 years a ton of new cultivars have been developed.

Here's a picture of Hemerocallis fulva, the common day lily that one sees in ditches and at old homesteads.
