Anything else I can breed to chinchilla

I have a BEW program going on but don't want to breed the Vienna gene into my chinchillas hollands. Anything else I can breed them to? Love the squirrels and chins but can't find any in our area. I have a nice chestnut doe, but won't she throw mainly chestnuts? Thanks!

Chinchilla can be bred to Himayan or REW or even shaded, however telling apart sable agouti from a true chinchilla can be difficult

You can breed to other colours, such as chestnut, but if you want more chins the rabbit must have a parent of one of the above mentioned colours.

It would be best to stick with agouti based rabbits and to stay away from self or non extension (tort, orange/red ) to avoid getting unshowable colours but if pets are your focus then its not a big deal.

Thanks for the reply Dood, how can I tell the difference between a true chin and sable chin? I definitely don't want the sable chins. I think the sire of my Chestnut is a sable chin and I have been hesitant to use her

A chin with sable is slightly lighter but it's hard to tell.

Most agouti colors should breed fine except for any risk of sable. Adding in self can give you self chins that look black and you can't tell. You can also breed otters and will get silver martens after a few generations depending what you start with.

With Hollands you have more flexibility. I only have black chins in Rex, so I only breed chins to chins, or to a black, that I special ordered to not carry dilute or chocolate. But Hollands allow both chocolate and blue chin (squirrel), so you would not have any problems breeding chins to any self rabbit, unless it carried non extention, but then again, frosty is permissible in hollands too.

I would avoid the chestnuts, they say that it adds a yellowish cast to the chin, and I assume shaded will add the sepia as well.
