The pointed kit from Thumper (Palomino) and Fern (Tort) now has darker eyes. Not brown like her litter mates, but not med blue anymore. Also, the white kits from Thumper (Palomino) and Ruby (Palomino) are now developing points exactly the same way the pointed kit did. I think it is safe to say we have a shaded gene. All 3 come from the same breeder, so it's not totally surprising that they have similar genetics.

In Wheezy (Chestnut Agouti) and Shadow's (Black) litter, we have 4 black, 2 chin, 1 tort, 4 agouti. The tort does not have the cream belly, so no otter confusion there. It's getting fun to be able to look at a kit and know what it is!

I have a question about the black kits. When I blow on their coat, it is not solid black all the way to the skin. It is like a dark gray (blue) about 1/2 and 1/2. There is at least 1 that is solid all the way down. Is that just part of the black coat?

(edited to fix a typo)

Slate blue undercoat is normal for a black rabbit which is why black angoras and fuzzy's look blue-ish.

It is likely rufus modifiers, or other colour genes that are not well understood or yet to be discovered, that are playing with the undercoat of your very black kit making him darker, and a very desirable trait in the long haired breeds.
