I saw a ad on Craigslist advertising American Rabbits. I was going to get all New Zealand whites but these look very similar but with longer fur. How is the American similar or different than the NZ. this is hard decision which breed to go for. My main purpose will be for meat and for my kids meat pens in 4-h. Are Americans calmer than NZ?
I am also looking for a lion head or Netherland dwarf for my 9 year old daughter. Any suggestions on the better one? So many rabbits and I can afford only so much. :hmm:

Regarding your 9 year old, I have both Lion heads and Netherlands, both being 3 lbs. Both breeds are sweet and with daily handling can be such a good companion for a responsible child. Does your daughter want to learn to groom? If so, Lion heads would be my suggestion. I found through the grooming process, my Lion heads became so sweet and friendly. They enjoy the contact and was my way to really learn to interact with them. If not, Netherlands would be the way to go. Plus there are more Netherlands out there, and would probably be easier to find than a true Lion head. Many being passed off as LH's, but will become a bigger bunny (5-6 pounds).
