Im on a fishing expidition on this breed as I do think BlueBell is one of them :) if not she is at least 1/2 or 3/4 that due to her conformation, build ,body type ,looks :) Picture to follow

What does anyone know about the breed and if there are breeders on the West Coast

Thank you in advance for any and all help

They are a wonderful rabbit. The breeder we got our Beverens from also raises Americans. Mandolin body shape, a good sized rabbit but because they are mandolin and not commercial shape they appear more elegant in body. The breeder said both the Americans and Beverens grow fast, just under his NZWs.

Once I get my blue Beverens, I am seriously thinking of getting some Americans, love the blues, they are a really, really dark blue color. All of the Americans the breeder had were very curious and sweet. The white Americans were used to develop the NZWs. They are a meat breed.

There is an active group on yahoo for Americans.

Is BlueBell really light blue or really dark blue? Beverens are light, the American is dark. Since the American was developed from the Beveren, they are very similar in size and shape. I much prefer the light myself; some of the dark blue are so dark they might as well be black :p:

That was a good thought uhurubuns.

Beverens also have a longer coat- it can be up to 2 inches in length. Our Beverens fur is very luxurious feeling and soft. The blue is a really light, light shade of blue. A beverens head/face is fuller than an AMericans also. But both are mandolin shaped. Beverens have very long ears- looks like a v from the front.

__________ Wed Aug 01, 2012 12:10 pm __________

Here is a link to the judges conference. If you go to about the 10 minute point, you will see an American and then a minute later, he puts a beveren up on the table to show the difference in coat color. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI9j_DqBsRk

BlueBell is a dark blue and built like either a flemish or American. Those two look pretty close in conformation

The American came from the Flemish, Vienna Blue (now extinct)and the Imperial.

Most articles I have read regarding the Americans and Lewis Salisbury, reference Beverens along with the other breeds to produce the American. Such as here as far as the blue. http://twohunnyzrabbitry.webs.com/americanrabbits.htm

Ironically, it says the whites are from sports and I can't lay my hands on something online to reference for the beveren link. I don't think we'll ever know for sure what went into each and every breed. :) It's fun to guess sometimes.
