Is this an amber or just very red castor?

Could be amber, could also be red. What color are it's parents?
I thought I was breeding "Amber" and turned out I had LOTS of beautiful RED Rex.
Just got a chocolate buck & a lilac buck that came to me from convention :)
So I'm planning to have LOTS of kits with BROWN genes.
2013 may be the year I finally get that. We'll see.
Iplan for all my RED Rex to eventually be chocolate based TOO!

As Caroline suggested, look at that pedigree for the chocolate gene. I had one like that in my last litter, and the brother of the doe did have the chocolate gene, but the ear lacing was black. You need to have chocolate ear lacing.

This guys sibs were a silver marten, black otter, chinchilla, blue otter, chin with brown tipping not black and another like him. his dam was a castor. I don't recall immediately what colour his sire was but lots of colour in his pedigree.

I'd say reddish castor too. I wish I had taken a pure of that guy before I culled him. Well here's the amber.

I'm not sure if you can see the chocolate ear lacing.
