The opal buck is 7 mos. He has ok agouti rings on his sides, but no rings on his back. Should I even bother keeping him. Will he just give me more opals with no rings? He is definitely an agouti, he has the tan markings, just no ring color on his back.

If he has the type, you might want keep him for a litter or two with a couple does. If he doesn't have great type or awesome fur then move him on now. If he has great attributes otherwise, I would definitely give a benefit of a doubt and see if any pop up like him with no rings. OR you could use him in a rew or self/dilute programme, lol. For me it would depend on his type to begin with.:)

i agree that if he has nice type he might be worth keeping. also, sometimes rings get more defined once a rabbit gets his adult coat in. some of my junior satins have appeared to have very poor ring color, sometimes even missing a band, but once they get their adult coat in they look much much better.

Basically his life just got spared. That's why I named him Lucky Day.

He is a good looking buck, but I am so buck heavy now that I am looking for any reason to cull. Nearly every rabbit in the barn carries dilute, and I have a blue buck already. Really the only reason he's still alive is is because he's the "coveted" opal color. I'll breed him to the blue and castor does and see what I get.

__________ Thu Sep 27, 2012 7:26 pm __________

I got rings!!!

Yea, he's the color I've been working on for months. Now to get him bred to the castor or blue, if only the does would cooperate.

Yay, an Opal for Sky! :D

I'm sure he will be eager to get to work when the does are willing! :)
