From the experts here at RT we found out that our Netherland Dwarf doe and buck both had syphilis. The two rabbits are gone.

Now I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to totally clean everything? (Cages, water bottles, bowls, etc.). What do I do????

Also can it be contracted by another rabbit that eventually will be put in these cages if they aren't 100% cleaned?

Thank you for your help!!!!

Hm, what I've read it's only transmitted by direct contact, as mating or nursing. Maybe by crusts etc. infected rabbits lost.

But just to be sure, its bacteria, so washing everything with real hot water (+60C) will do the job, also a 60%-70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) mixture will desinfect quite efficiently.

Question, what did it look like? I know it's treatable and I am trying to self diagnose a problem with our buck, thinking it may be this.....
