After birth

Rosebud kindled this afternoon. I don't know how many live, maybe 6. But there were three dead and one that might not make it. Most of the kits were deep in the nest in the fur. Four were at the front of the nesting box. Three were already cold and dead. One was moving but a little cold so I put it in the nest with the others to keep it warm. Under the dead kits were four uneaten sacks and placentas.

She was busy pulling fur when we arrived so I'm pretty sure she was done with the nest.

Any ideas on why she did this?

It sounds like the kits were delivered very quickly and she just couldn't keep up. Either that or something disturbed her while she was kindling.

That sounds reasonable.

The 4th made it and lived through the night. Six live, all gray. I bred her (Am Chin) to a Silver Fox. If these grow well, I'll keep one or two does. So far, my Am Chin/SF crosses have done real well with growth.
