One of my reliable does, #RK-020, for the past 18 months kindled on 13 April. She had ?four? large kits.

Hmmmm.....not like her to have so few. She's always averaged 8-10 kits per litter with an excellent survival percentage.

Got chores out of the way early because I had a school board meeting. Got back home around 8:30 and headed to the barn to pull the horse off fresh grass and back into the dry-lot. I made a quick walk-through on the rabbitry.

I passed #20's cage....there were three fresh youngsters on the wire. Two were dead (for sure), one was still moving (barely). "Weird".....I put the kit in the nest with the four born two days previous. Made a slow walk down the aisles and on the way back I heard kits squeaking in #20's box. When I moved it, I saw two more kits on the wire "behind" the box. Into the box they went. All three were fine when I checked again before leaving for the night.

#20 had 4 kits (13 April).....then 5 more kits two days later (15 April). NEVER had that happen before. I've "heard" of it, but never experienced it. BTW: She was bred only once.

One side? Then the other? Like I said above: "Weird"

Grumpy.

Glad that only 2 died and not all of the. If you hadn't sensed something was off you might not have caught it. That's something that only comes from years of experience. Nice going. Gotta love how rabbits keep us on our toes.

I had a white satin doe do this a year ago. She had a total of 7 babies. The first batch was 4, and the other 3 were born a full 28 hours apart from the others.
