I have a californian doe that is chasing her 4.5 week old babies around the cage and biting them. The only time i witness this before is when a doe is breed and she is going to kindle that day or next. As far as i know she isnt pregnant nor does she look or feel like it. I tried calling the lady where i bought them as ask her to see if there is a chance of her being breed. But No. Couldnt get a hold of her since i bought them. ...So i had to take out the babies and put them in another cage. Is this something you see often ?

Mine wean at 4weeks. Sometimes slightly earlier. My colony does are rebred immediately so by 4 weeks they are getting ready for the next litter. I don't find anything over 3 weeks to be too early. I've raised a few litters from 2 weeks with no mother and no hand feeding due to various situations. Mine are nibbling on things in the box before their eyes even open.

Mine isnt pregnant to do this. I have lots of mothers and i have never seen this unless that are pregnant. I never breed back that soon unless they lost a litter.Or a doe that is fat and hard to catch...But Colony raising is allot different. I guess it depends on Mom.

I would go with your gut on this one, Mary Ann. If you have never seen a doe do this unless she is pregnant, I betcha that doe is prego. I would give her a nest and watch for hay gathering just to be safe.
