Three does kindled today, the new red NZ sisters at 32 days, and Gwen on litter #2 at 31 days. Betty had a litter 8 days ago at day30. All does went in their box's.

My buck is a Californian, his offspring the red sisters (recently named Molly and Maggie), are the largest size at birth. Molly had 8 and Maggie had 5 very plump kits. I wasn't expecting the black ones, although I really had no idea what I would get from the mix. Gwens litter of 8 is very small sized compared to others. Betty had 8 and I lost two over the last two days due to cold snap. gggrrrrrr......relentless this winter was! Bettys was the smallest at last culling, but this litter seems to be gaining very nicely. I may consider holding a doe back out of her batch

Congrats on the popples :)
My last two litters total 21, one doe had 14 with 11 survivors last week and the second had 10 today

:congratulations:

I'm so glad the kindling went according to plan, for the most part. The weather has been a roller coaster here too, in this past week the temperature went up to 72'F and 48 hours later we had an inch of snow  but hopefully this winter is FINALLY over.

I think your "black" kits are gold tipped steel (AKA chestnut steel) ;) as I think I see a tiny bit of brown fur at the base of their necks.

You were very lucky that your Californian buck carries non-extension and can produce fawns/oranges/reds, it is one of the rarer colour genes in meat breeds. And those white kits should start getting darker points like poppa, especially if it is chilly out ;) Because you have fawns in the litter, one (or more) of the white kits could genetically be a fawn and I am curious if they develop orangish points instead of grey - please keep us updated :D

Oh wow, I sure will. My cali buck history is: father was cali, and mom was gray flemmish. The pair of red NZ sisters I have no history on, other than approx. 1yr old. Genetics is on my list to learn :)

Wow, what a lot of popples. Congrats!

Thanks all are still doing very well!

Betty's litter 8 down to 6 doing fantastic. She lost two that fell out of the box. She is half the size of her mother and needs the two extra weeks for her grow outs. Fantastic mom so far, two times now. She has potential to throw out color, so far she has not. Her litter was 4 weeks old on Saturday.

2 wk 3day old litters by 3 does all on the same day :D

Gwen, Betty's sweeter sister is a great mom as well, and so far has larger litter size and grow outs. Her second time around with out difficulty or disappointment. No box jumpers either!

Molly is a very protective mother and did not care for any paparazzi action only allowing one photo! She had 8 and lost a red kit that again fell out of the box. The two whites are staying white so far.

Beautiful !

I love the high Rufus gold tipped steels with their red siblings :) such a striking colour

Your california buck must carry a REW, a steel and a non-extension to have fathered these kits. I cannot tell if there are true blacks but if so he also carries self. He likely has red New Zealand in his ancestry.

Betty's litter is 8wks old yesterday, two out of the six are weighing in at 3 1/2 lbs, so a couple more weeks they should be right at time.

Gwens litter is doing well, and the friendliest of all them. She did have one that is solid black with gray belly, it never had the chestnut look to it, I wish it would of been a girl.

Attn Dood, Molly's whites stayed all white, no light colored cali marks, maybe next time eh?

Maggies litter of five is doing great and they are chubby!

Hard to believe we are almost to butcher time! I will be thankful as the pellet intake is killing me!! LOL

-- Wed Jul 30, 2014 8:28 pm --

Sunday was butcher day, and my first time all by myself. I started at 8:30 am and stopped at 9:30 pm. I got through 23 out of the 27. WOW what a day!!! I was so exhausted by the end of the day. They were roughly 14/16 weeks old. A little older than I wanted but connecting up with others to get the task done was getting very difficult. Not to mention the natives were beginning to get very restless! So I had to bite the bullet! I got into this because I said I could do it. The time was now to prove to myself I could, and by god I did! I ended up with over 69lbs of meat, the smallest weighing 3 1/2 lbs. I traded/sold 7, gave 7 away, 6 parted out for my freezer, leaving 2 whole ones in the freezer to be sold with the last four I will butcher this weekend. Over all very happy with my results
