    Question For The Experts

I don't know really, its something I have very mixed feelings about. I would much prefer that they hadn't, as far as keeping pet or meat rabbits, but at the same time they had to do something about it, after they were introduced in the first place. And it has worked, you know. I think it was one...

    Question For The Experts

One problem here in Australia, is the two diseases (and their variants) that they released to kill wild rabbits make it very hard to grow domestic ones. One has to keep them completely free of mosquitos, and of course any actually contact with wild rabbits. I don't suppose that would be so hard...

    Catching wild rabbits for meat?

Thanks for the replys everyone! Apples or greens seem to be the way to go, so I'll see what they think of that, although first I might try my idea of just putting it up against a hole. A slight complication is it is about 10 mins away driving, and the 10 min walk, so I can't keep popping over...

    Catching wild rabbits for meat?

Any particular reason why not to? Just interested, as while I didn't think it would be affective, I didn't know there was any reason to definitely not use them. Yeah, I'm not using a snare! I expect they can be fairly quick if set up just right, but I would have no idea what I would be doing...

    Catching wild rabbits for meat?

Hey everyone! A while back I had a thread about how I could keep meat rabbits in an enclosure I had. Sadly keeping rabbits for meat just didn't work out, mostly because of not enough time or room. I have come across a wild (feral) rabbit warren that needs getting rid of, because they are doing...

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

Thank you! That gives me a bit of an idea. If I divide it how I was thinking, that would be around 50 square feet each, (I think!) which seems like more than enough? If I wanted to separate the kits to grow out what age can one do that? Sorry for all the questions, I'm really new to this!

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

I didn't put it very clearly in my first post, and then clarified it for someone else, so I don't blame you! In that sort of set up, how much floor space is need per rabbit?

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

Thank you for your thoughts! I definitely would be keeping the buck separate most of the time. "I was thinking of just having one doe and one buck to start with. I thought I could possibly divide it so both buck and doe are separate, and another section for growing out the kits. I have no idea...

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

I am not sure, I think space for cleaning out the g-pigs might be the problem. I might get some photos next time I have my camera with me.

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

I was thinking of just having one doe and one buck to start with. I thought I could possibly divide it so both buck and doe are separate, and another section for growing out the kits. I have no idea whether there is enough room for that though. I it would help, I could get some photos of it. My...

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

So can you keep more than one doe together, even when they have babies? And I would definitely keep the buck separate. I'll look into whether one can get PDZ here, I have never heard of it before. Would it matter to much if I can't? Thank you!

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

I have a bit, and I don't think it would really work. We are a bit lacking in grass, and also in the feral rabbits around here there are diseases, and while now they are not near the house, I am a bit wary of letting domestic rabbits go on the exposed ground.

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

So I'm thinking about getting a pair of meat rabbits sometime, most likely not for a while though. I have heard about keeping them in cages, and in a colony. I don't really like the idea of cages, but a colony is not practical either. I have a 15 by 11 feet walk in encloser with a roof and...

    Hello!

Thank you for this! And I think a good mix is probably what they are, as neither of them look very much like any of the rabbits you have posted. Parsley almost looks a bit like a Netherlands Dwarf, I have always thought,

    Hello!

Absolutely! No worries at all. Thank you! Do they look like they are Dutch x mini lop? I have always wondered if that really was what they are.
  16. Rabbit19

    Hello!

Yes I am. As far as I know NSW doesn't have any restrictions on keeping them. In QLD you are not allowed to, not sure about other states and territories.

    Hello!

I didn't know that she was lilac! I have always just called her gray. Thank you for the welcome:)

    Hello!

Hello everyone! I live in NSW, Australia. I got my first rabbit around 6 years ago whom I loved dearly. Sadly I didn't know about calicivirus, and lost her at less than a year old. For a while I couldn't bear to look at a rabbit, but then had to have them again, so got a pair of does from pet...
