Whats the chances of a successful first time mom?

My first time doe did not pull fur until they were born and none of them were in the nest box. I checked on her in the morning. I assumed she just wasn’t pregnant. I checked this afternoon and they were all over the cage and none survived. Now that it is heading into November, I wonder if I...

How did you decide to have rabbits?

I volunteered last summer on a homestead with chickens, ducks, quail and rabbits. I thought quail would be a great food source, but changed my mind and decided that rabbits were more cost effective per pound.

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

I am still new to rabbits myself. I believe bucks are not ready to breed until about 6 months of age. I have also read not to buy older does. If they were good breeders, they wouldn’t sell them and they only breed for about 3 years. Anyone else have input?

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

You can adjust the amount of food dispensed and the number of times it feeds each day. You could have a feeder for each bunny if they need different feeding requirements. I put a link to the feeder I use (above). If you want unlimited food, I suggest a gravity feeder and you can find pvc designs...

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

I covered the feeder with a bucket and then plastic to keep it all dry. The company suggests enclosing it ina secure box, but I haven’t done anything that permanent yet.

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

It works pretty well. The tubes are 3/4” so the food sometimes get stuck. The food can be as long as 1”. Still needs someone to check it occasionally.

I read the tamuk is very heat tolerant. Might look into that bread for FL heat.

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

I did a lot of research before I found this solution. It is an outdoor feeder. I fed the cord through a pvc pipe to the timer. I will be enclosing the feeder with 2x2s and wire to keep critters out. https://superfeederstore.com/wall-mount-cat-pet-feeders/

Not taking well to automatic water

When my rabbits drink, a little water is spilled. I guess if you had many rabbits in each cage, it could accumulate. My hutch has no trays, just earth below it.

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

It is attached to an outdoor timer. I cut holes in the top of the feeders and fed the 3/4” tube partway down into them.

    Automatic Bunny Feeder

Nearly done with my automatic bunny feeder and thought I would share. I travel every month and do not want my bunnies to be neglected! It is an outdoor Super-Feeder and currently holds 5lbs of food. I still need to enclose it to keep out Squirrels and raccoons.

Not taking well to automatic water

I read somewhere that you could put something on the nipples that the rabbits like and then they learn to drink from them. I can’t find what it was.

How are you keeping your rabbits cool this really hot "summer" so far?

I just added a large flat bottom bowl of ice water to each of my cages. One bunny already put his two front paws and stood that way for a solid minute. Then cleaned himself. I think the others will do the same. I have box fans and do frozen water bottles. I have to remember to pull them when...
