    Question For The Experts

Bugs are people too! Shouldn't they have rights? (It always baffles me that mammals should be over-protected, but other living things are expendable....) And, plants have feelings, my friend! Hope you know I am kidding! You know, it is hard to know what insanity is anymore, since sanity is not...

    Question For The Experts

Live rabbits for meat, pedigreed rabbits, unrelated pairs/trios...pets Meat.... Organs ($17/oz)... Pelts (tanned or not) Ears/heads/feet/blood for dog treats Droppings for fertilizer Urine for insecticide/lure I am probably forgetting something! There is no waste about rabbits. Every bit can be...

    Desperate and deflated.

When there's a serious effort to silence information, you can be pretty sure it is worth looking into. The fact is that these are all theories, so they should all have their fair chance at being discovered to be true, and therefore being subject to honest and knowledgable judgment. I guess...

    Thank you!

    Desperate and deflated.

Fear is a great motivator in devaluing reasonable concerns. There surely were other "plagues" that went through in history....and we still have rabbits...even without the government saving them (or perhaps....) God bless you and give health to your rabbits!

    Where to get floor wire

Bass Equipment is an online company--good supply, good price.

    Tomorrow is our first dispatch.

Good morning! I have definitely settled on the hopper popper as my preferred method of dispatch. Two exceptions: sick rabbits (which can be a bit messy-- a bullet/pellet requires less handling) and rabbits older than 12 weeks (which are getting so large and strong that a .22 bullet does the job...

    Desperate and deflated.

I am sorry you are going through this nightmare! I have had a few "plagues" go through over the years. A little encouragement: the rabbits that survive will build your herd in a very strong fashion. If you find out what would cause the liver to turn black, I appreciate knowing. About 6 months...

feeding raw rabbit as dog food

I used to open up the carcass for our dogs....then discovered that they are perfectly capable of opening it themselves! ;-) We don't have problems with our dogs and stock either--Gr. Pyrenees, Maremmas, Komondor, Border Collie.

    Biggest size of successful litter

My does produce an average of 8 kits in a litter. Some regularly produce 12-13, and once a doe produced 17(!). My does rarely lose kits, but she did lose two out of the 17. Generally, the more kits, the smaller they are. But, they do catch up pretty quickly after they are weaned and have...

    Fleas

Thanks! Good to know about the Ivermectin since it has fewer side effects than the other topical flea remedies. I used to put that gel on my dog until she got sick from it--and then we had reason to wonder what it was doing to us when we would pet her....Of course, the gel is poison...I don't...

    Fleas

Yes! We use it on all of our pets and livestock animals: cats, dogs, pet mice, goats, rabbits, pigs, chickens Here is a quote from an authority on the safety of breathing DE: I received an email from Larry Smith, the President of Earthworks, who wanted to clear up the misconception about any...

    Fleas

Food grade DE (diatomaceous earth) is one of the best natural insecticides. Rub into fur, avoiding unnecessary dust in air (not good for lungs--yours or rabbits--to breathe in much) Add a tsp to rabbit food for a week to get rid of the intestinal worms fleas can give through their bites. It is...

    Greetings

Good info-- I raise American Chinchillas and haven't yet had a problem with undesirable traits (3-4 years). I guess they are known for their health and good mothering instincts, so I am spoiled and have it pretty easy! I just have to add "new blood" every so often, and I have a few pedigreed...

    Greetings

Hello, again! You know what really puzzles and amuses me is what, exactly, "unrelated" and "inbreeding" mean in the rabbit world. I chuckle every time I use the term "unrelated" with rabbits. Unrelated is defined by professionals in a few different ways. The parents breeding with offspring or...

Meat Rabbit Exercise--looking for show tips

Well said! It can certainly be hard, but it does keep the rabbits happy and healthy. That keeps me going! God bless you!

    Time to sell

Good morning! The law in New Hampshire is that the rabbits have to be at least 4 weeks old when sold. If the mother has weaned them (which she will have if she is bred around the day the kits are born) the kits may be fine to move along at 4 weeks. However, my experience is that they have a much...
