    Making your own healthy feed

It's a grass afterall. We got some from a man in Missouri who manages many kinds of bamboo on a fairly small property and the key word is 'manage'. He mows or brush-hogs lanes between the cultivars and it keeps them contained. This is true. There is a novelty plant sold in Asian stores called...

Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

It's a machine that's programmed to handle the whole process. The brand is Harvest Right. It's pretty noisy for our kitchen, we have it in a separate building.

Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

I've been cooking up the rabbits in the freezer to make way for Fall culls. Trying out recipes for dinner and freeze drying the leftovers. Love that freeze dryer!

    Making your own healthy feed

We call this Jerusalem Artichoke here in the US and YES it's so easy to grow and the rabbits love it. Also sunflower leaves, another big easy plant.

Chicken recipe that works great with rabbit meat

I made this with cut up rabbit a la buttermeats in the crockpot and it turned out great. I didn't have any sherry wine so I used half/half sherry vinegar/water. I also didn't have any paprika or Tabasco so I left them both out out and subbed cayenne. Imperial Chicken 2 broilers halved/pieces...

    question about skin color

@Alaska Satin I looked at a hair from Chamo under magnification and it is banded with a black tip. It's night now and I won't be able to get a good picture until tomorrow afternoon but I will try to get a good shot of it. So is she an agouti steel? Is there such a thing? Another question: you...

    question about skin color

Thank you so much for your explanation! However I have these two rabbits, purebred Americans but "sports", who don't seem to have the banding (or maybe it's too subtle for me to recognize). I've called them "blue agouti", but I'd love to get your eye on them. So here goes: the first four pics...

    question about skin color

Uh Oh After reading up on genetics from some of the references in RT threads, it seems I might have to refine my pedigrees. It seems that some rabbits I've labeled 'blue' are -? "blue self steel", and a "blue agouti" is maybe ? some kind of chin. Confusion setting in . . .

    Butter Rabbit

I just found the recipe you posted! I'll try it; so much easier, and with basically the same ingredients. One of my family's favorite dishes as well.

    Butter Meats

This is a technique from the keto world that works great for rabbit meat. It's done in the crock pot. You put half a stick of butter on the bottom, then your meat, sprinkle seasoning, then the other half of the stick of butter, cover and cook on low for 6 - 8 hours. When it's done, break up the...

    Butter Rabbit

I just made this butter chicken recipe with boned out rabbit meat and it was delish! I left out the cashews. Ingredients For the Chicken 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs ½ cup full fat Greek yogurt 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 2 teaspoons minced ginger 3 garlic cloves minced 1...

    question about skin color

Yes, the skin (from underneath, at butchering) had spots like in your picture. I raise pedigreed American blues and whites and the deviations from the standard that I've observed are agouties and steels, although I am pretty much unschooled in genetics. Way back I did have what we called an...

    Rabbit Liverwurst

I'll have to try that! Sounds yummy. This recipe for Chicken Liver Pate works great with rabbit livers: Chicken Liver Paté, from Nourishing Traditions [ISBN 0-9670897-3-5] by Sally Fallon 3 tablespoons butter 1 pound chicken or duck livers, or a combination ½ pound mushrooms, washed, dried and...

    question about skin color

Is there a correlation between skin color and coat color? I've recently done some culling and butchering and observed that some of my blue rabbits had a mottled skin color. I didn't take pictures unfortunately but I'm referring to skin that, if it were a coat of fur, would appear to be a...

Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

Bunny ‘n Beer: this has been my standard recipe for years, and you can make it with cider and curry instead of the mustard and beer as a variation. I usually make it in a skillet but it can be easily adapted to crock pot or instant pot. Here’s how to make it: brown the rabbit (cut up or boned...

New Project: Built Small Rabbit Colony Cage - Inspired by Kummer Homestead on YT

Last year I put the cull bucks in a run in the garden. There were only four, and I put a senior buck in there to be 'run daddy', thinking that he would keep them from getting nasty with each other, as had happened in a previous run that I did. However this time the older buck was harassed by the...

New Project: Built Small Rabbit Colony Cage - Inspired by Kummer Homestead on YT

On digging: I've put my grow outs in our upper garden which is fallow for this year. It has a 6' tall 2x4 fence with rabbit wire or chicken wire around the bottom 30", and two pass-through traps to catch the curious racoon/woodchuck/armadillo/possum. Gave them extra shade and shelter under a...

New Project: Built Small Rabbit Colony Cage - Inspired by Kummer Homestead on YT

@Rabbits by Accident: VERY interesting! I have been planning a raised bed and I could maybe put the colony on top of it as you first thought. The raised bed has sticks and branches on the bottom to deter the moles (which are a big problem here) and at the moment has grow bags on top of that. My...
