    Rabbit Liver

How long is rabbit liver good for in the fridge? We butchered Saturday morning, it’s now Tuesday, 3 days later and I forgot to dry my liver. Will it still be good? I usually only let it go two days max.

    What is this colour called?

Wow! Thanks for all this excellent info! Very helpful! I haven’t been able to get a pic of the more grey kit yet but as soon as I can, I will! I’m curious if you think that gene may be in them or not!

    What is this colour called?

Wow! Thanks! that’s so informative! The sire doesn’t have Vienna marks, but his kits often do. Typically the full black ones can have the white streak on top of their head. Edit: We also have our first grey one in his litter with our NZ white doe. Now that you mention it, I’m going to look...

    What is this colour called?

Lol! Sorry, Im only a year into this so don’t know the names. here’s a pic of the mom (Californian) and dad (Flemish/NZ cross). By peppered i meant he has all those colours peppered together. The coloured kits with him as the sire, they usually are pure black or with Vienna marks or like him but...

    What is this colour called?

I tried to post this on the genetics board but for some reason it wasn’t showing, so plopped it here. If an admin is able to move it, that’s fine.

    What is this colour called?

So we have Californian, Flemish Giant/NZ cross and New Zealand rabbits. Anytime we have had litters they have always been pure white, pure black, black with Vienna markings, black/grey/brown peppered (unsure if there’s a specific name for this) and Californian colouring. This time in breeding...

    Fruit flies and Fodder

Hmm… maybe I’ll find more info online using the correct name 🤣 I don’t grow it in soil. Just sprout it and let it grow, feed the grass and entire root mat. I soak the seed in hydrogen peroxide before sprouting to prevent mold, I’ll have to look into that other remedy, but making sure it’s washed...

    Fruit flies and Fodder

Does anyone know how to prevent fruit flies from setting up colony in your fodder in late summer? Lol. I disposed of all my fodder at the end of summer because it was just a fruit fly magnet and would be clouds of them when I touched the fodder. I had to dispose and spend weeks catching fruit...

    Max time?

What’s the longest amount of time pieces of a rabbit carcass can stay in a fridge before turning to dog treats? We processed 3 days ago, then kids got really sick so didn’t get a chance to do anything with the bits. I’m going to slice and dehydrate the livers tonight, but the ears are still in...

    WHY?! 😫

No weather changes that night. I will be extra mindful of that though with future litters. The nest bottoms are semi-solid. There are two grates that go in the bottom, one more open and the other more solid with just tiny holes in it. They’re basically solid once the hay pieces work their way...

    WHY?! 😫

I’ll definitely check them over to be sure.

    WHY?! 😫

I was toying with trying this method. If the doe typically feeds in the night though, will she still feed when they get placed back in with her? I never ever see them feed, but I think I always catch them right after when I feed the rabbits in the morning, so, they must feed in the early morning...

    WHY?! 😫

They are in outdoor hutches, three sided and we block the 4th when needed. There is also a fence surrounding two sides and a tree in front/over.

    WHY?! 😫

Ugh, I’m sorry you had an incident too. That happened to us with a first litter for a doe. She was a great mom after. Just her learning curve for you, too, hopefully.

    WHY?! 😫

Thank you, all. I’m just glad my husband was the one who happened upon that. I couldnt have done it. I’ve removed the odd dead kit, but a whole litter 😫 Thats interesting about December/January. I wonder why those are hard months. We can’t breed during the summer because it’s too hot, if we...
