    Dispatch questions

We use a pellet gun. I can't do any other method, I'm not good with "hands-on" dispatching. I'm a wimp, I guess. I'm not sure of the specifics of the pellet gun, my husband does that part, though I have no problem with it either, I just need to get used to his gun- .177, but not CO2. Our...

    First-time mother

I just lost a litter of kits, but I kinda expected it. The mother was a first-time mama from my first litter. Her mother, my primary doe, had 11 kits her first litter and lost only one runt. This doe had a litter of 6, I think, through the night. She pulled hair and yesterday had made a nest in...

    Filling a Rabbitry: Final Decision

You probably don't want to travel all the way to Flagstaff, but there is a breeder there with several breeds. I can't remember all of them. I'm in AZ, too, but I'm up on the Mogollon Rim.

Something Bad is About to Happen...

I have been thinking about a non-electric sewing machine myself. I wonder about treadle machines. I wonder if they are easy or hard to run, etc. I've seen some homesteaders on youtube use them and seen them on Craigslist.

    DIY project complete

I really like this. Good job. I'll be trying to make my first all-wire hutch (first "anything" hutch that I have made) this weekend. I'm going to go all wire, then add wood for top and sides. Hard to explain, but it will work ... hopefully.

Doe is mounting my buck ?

I just had this happen when trying to mate one of my does. Its her first mating, let the buck mount her, he fell off, tried a few more times, then she started mounting him. This doe always thinks she is the boss. She totally terrorized her sister who is a very sweet girl.

    Dumb newbie genetics question

I think they are both red eyed whites. I inexperienced in this, and they have pink/red inner eye with a light blue outer. So I guess they are REW. So, all of their offspring would be the same?

    Dumb newbie genetics question

Ok, I will state before I even finish typing this, that this is a stupid newbie question. But... here goes... One bew nz/Flemish mix doe and one bew nz/Flemish buck go into a hutch together... Would the kits be all white, or would they produce kits with other colors?

2 young does in 1 cage- 1 dominant

Our buns are for meat purposes 1st and pets second, so breed traits/desireability issues don't bother me in the least. I do, however, feel like a mad scientist when considering who to breed. I love colors, so my whites are pretty, but not my favorite color ( though my three whites are extremely...

    6-yr-old daughter dropped a kit

Thanks, everyone. Its very sad, but I will need to be able to do this sort of thing when one of my buns needs to be put out of its misery. On a side note, Heritage- I'm a homeschooling mom as well, of 3. We've nicknamed out time with our buns "Animal Husbandry Class". Its an elective at our...

2 young does in 1 cage- 1 dominant

The third option will work as soon as I can find something to put in the middle of the hutch. Just out of curiosity, can a doe and buck ever live together in a hutch? I had two live together quite happily, but they were brother and sister and young. They were the first rabbits I had ever had...

2 young does in 1 cage- 1 dominant

I chose to keep 2 does from my first litter for breeders- I'm not sure why, though, because from 1/2 flemish and 1/2 nz parents, they both came out nz whites, but I want 3 does. I also kept a buck because he has great temperament and I like his shape, etc. The two does are in a hutch...

    6-yr-old daughter dropped a kit

Thanks for the reply, buttonspalace. Yes, its definitely hurt. The other two kits' eyes opened yesterday and they crawled out of the nest box last night. This poor baby seems to be able to move all four legs but holds its neck crooked, so doesn't walk straight and holds its back curved. It can...

    6-yr-old daughter dropped a kit

Well, it seems I have only had time to post to this forum when something goes wrong with my rabbits. My doe had her second successful litter (after losing an entire litter of 11). The litter had 4 (One stillborn), so we have 3 adorable kits. Due to the afternoon heat and the fact that I believe...

Think of Transitioning to a Colony Set-Up?

I am very interested to follow your journey towards colony rabbits. For many of the reasons you described, I have an interest as well. Check out "Peebles Rabbit Colony" channel on youtube. His videos show his colony and how he set it up. He's informative and seems like a nice guy as well. Keep...

    What breed is this?

She looks just like a rabbit I had that was a Flemish giant/ NZ cross before it was fully mature. Very similar.

Need help: snuffles in pregnant doe

Fairly new breeder here. I caught a sign of snuffles in my doe's first litter that was growing out. I culled three, but now my doe is two weeks pregnant and has a runny nose. I don't seem to see/hear sneezing, but runny nose. She has been digging in the ground when she gets time in her rabbit...
