    Help with oddball Rex doe...

Yes they are Rex coated but a few have these longer guard hairs -- They are 8 weeks so I think you're right that maybe they're starting to molt. I was also wondering about self chin. I spoke to the breeder of my original stock and without seeing pictures that was what he thought it may be as...

    Help with oddball Rex doe...

Hi everyone, I had a surprise kit out of one of my recent litters. Dam = Black (self) Sire = Blue otter The above doe has had a number of litters for me and always throws black - however, this is the first litter she has had with this buck, and I have one doe weanling from the litter that is...

    Goats vs Sheep

I used to have some Icelandic sheep and I wish I lived somewhere that I could have them again. They were very smart, liked to browse on a lot of different plants (like goats), and are compact enough to handle fairly easily. They also reproduce well and are hardy. Not to mention all of the colors...

    Nose markings and false Charlie

Thanks, I was planning to use him on solids only. I'm just curious if anyone knows any genetic info regarding what causes false Charlies. I actually just had this happen with a couple of my current rabbits -- I have a nice broken blue otter doe with correct markings who, when bred to my solid...

    Nose markings and false Charlie

Hello, I am looking at a broken castor Buck to purchase - he has the desired percentage of color, but he is missing the nose markings-it is solid white - but his ears and eyes have the appropriate markings. His mom is a false Charlie castor with a full butterfly, and his sire is a solid black...

    USDA licensure?

Kenosha Rabbits, I appreciate your passion on this topic. I'm sorry that you took this personally as an attack, as it was not my intention. I did actually read the law before I posted (as I do know how to read) but apparently not carefully enough in the initial scan. The point of my confusion...

    USDA licensure?

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are about USDA licensure? Does anyone on here have licensing with the USDA for breeding rabbits (that aren't strictly fur/meat rabbits)? It doesn't seem practical (or even realistic) for anyone ... I wonder if they ever think of that before they make laws...

    Poll: Age at Sale

In Minnesota there is no minimum age to sell kits (At least not that I can find -- if you find evidence of a minimum please let me know). For me, the age is determined by their size, overall health, and if they're thriving once being weaned. What age do you start selling rabbits at? (6-9 weeks)...

    Decapitated weanling

I have had a colony set-up for over a year now and have not lost a single rabbit to a predator until last night. I discovered one of my weanling grow-outs on top of a bin (that they use for shelter), decapitated. Her neck appeared to be chewed (I haven't had a chance to look for additional...

    keeping the ground dry?

I have a large tarp completely over my colony pens, and then I just add a bit of dry hay, straw, or wood shavings as things start getting too damp. I think the trick for you is just to build up the ground inside the pen so it is higher than the surrounding ground -- so everything drains off. Or...

    Variety color chart

I made it for Rex since I raise Rex - I think they are just saying it would be nice to have an equivalent one for angoras. :)

    Variety color chart

I wanted to share the new color chart I made to show my current varieties raised and their phenotypes. I think it turned out pretty cute :D - maybe it will be helpful for someone. I plan to do another one in the future for the other common Rex varieties.

Mergeing rabbits for colony type grazeing

I agree with Maggie J, we need some additional information of ages, genders and numbers. Also, how much space are you considering to have and what type of enclosure?

    Selling Rabbit Products

I was pondering the best way to advertise that I sell meat rabbits and associated products (offal, feet, heads, etc.) as well as pelts and feeder pinkie bunnies. I'd like to develop a clientele for these products but I'm not sure how to do that in the most tactful/tasteful way. Does anyone have...

    Roll Call -- Colony Systems

Yeah that'll be tricky -- hopefully the does are good at keeping them all well fed.

    Digging

I don't discourage digging -- but I have wire buried about a foot under the dirt so they can't tunnel out of their pen. I have an outdoor colony though. Not sure what type of system you have. In my case if I wanted to discourage digging I would just lay wire on top of the ground.
