Yesterday, our lovely little 3-yr old mini-rex doe, Mischief, passed away quite suddenly. Earlier in the day, she had been at her cage door begging for pets, but when my DH went to pet her about noon, she was gone :( We have no idea how or why, we are just sad.

I figured they'd definitely count as "new releases" <3 They're so sweet right now. I hope they get their Daddy's personality - he's a sweet, snuggle and inquisitive little guy - and he WAGS his TAIL !!

Who can resist these adorable "New Releases" ?!? I couldn't resist using the babies for this, it just HAD to be done !

I actually have sent a message to the girl I bought Ballach from. I didn't think to ask if she had any REW litter mates though - I did ask if she'd previously kindled (if not, she did great, since I hear that many don't allow rabbits over a year to a year-and-a-half to breed for the first...

Our doe, who just kindled on Saturday, went on day 32. She looked HUGE to me ! But only 4 kits, and she did beautifully :D I wouldn't worry just yet. Someone much wiser told me to just let mine be alone, and she'd likely birth at night - and that's exactly what she did <3

Our first ever litter <3

31 days and a few hours later we have our answer ! She had 4 kits in the wee hours of this morning.

Early this morning, Ballach - our broken black Mini Rex doe - gave us our first little of kits ever! She had 4 kits. 2 are a good size, 1 is a definite peanut, and 1 I think is another peanut, but *MAY* just be a runt. Mama is broken black. Daddy is a REW.

I haven't seen her pull any more fur, but she very suddenly turned just as grumpy and snarky as my pregnant doe is ! Crazy hormones !

I can't see how it would work. Pregnancy tests detect a hormone called "Human chorionic gonadotrophin", and in levels that vary - cheaper tests only detect higher levels. You pay for the increase in sensitivity. It's not actually a true/false test, even though the results look that way. It's...

I have 1 pregnant doe now, and not enough space to keep 2 litters. So while it would be good from a biology stand point, it would not be a responsible move for me. Besides, she's really long through the shoulders, and apparently has a "pinched" hind end - not great traits to pass along.

My wee mini-rex doe, Mischief, who is about 10 months of age, and is definitely *NOT* pregnant - never been exposed to a buck at all, who has pulled fur like crazy in the last 24 hours ! No nest, it's just all out under the bottom of her cage. Quite odd to see. What is she doing ?
