I can certainly confirm that! First they were behind, then they had to pull people for the Texas show, etc. Four cages ordered beginning of SEPTEMBER and shipped YESTERDAY! Almost 10 weeks for something I was told would be 4 weeks, 5 at most.
I notice Klubertanz offers vinyl-coated 1x1/2 14 gauge wire. No idea what that would make the overall gauge into. Quite expensive though at 3.78/ft for 24" to 5.34/ft for 36".
It is rather amazing to see the two extremes of systems. An all-metal prefabricated (expensive) one designed for minimum labour costs versus the site-built (inexpensive) wood cages to minimize material cost. Just shows there is no one "right" way to do anything. I guess it really does not matter...
Ah, that makes sense. Ammonia/nitrogen in the urine. The cage design was quite interesting. Very much a design where wood and labour is cheap, but wire is expensive. I noticed the (mis)handling. However the rabbits seemed to be in very good shape. They looked clean and were not afraid of the...
And for something a little different, a Ugandan rabbit farm. Wood-framed cages with what appears to be slatted wood flooring? And raised on cabbage leaves no less! I could not quite make out what they were using the rabbit urine for as they stated it was valuable.

Interesting. I guess for the moment I can plan on the one 5-1/2" feedsaver and two creep feeders in doe cages, one 5-1/5" in the buck cages and probably two 5-1/2" in growout cages. Or perhaps I should make the growout and doe cages identical with two feeders so I can move the doe out instead of...
A quick question on those who have both the 5-1/2" feedsaver as well as a regular j-feeders. Bass lists the capacity of the 5-1/2" feedsaver at 60oz, three times the listed 20oz capacity of the normal 5-1/2" feeders. Is this accurate? It seems a little far-fetched that it would have that much...
I suspect it is a brand-new facility. I grew up on and around farms and not even a dairy is that clean. I notice no dust on top of the tubes, no dust bunnies/hair in the ventilator fan and no rust on the bolts. Still it is an impressive setup, irregardless of cage size.
Here I was feeling a little guilty about my planned rabbitry only having 24x36 cages for the does. While cruising YouTube I ran across a quick video showing a commercial operation (I assume in Spain). They have an interesting automatic feeding system which caught my eye as an engineer. It seems...
I did consider Bass myself for cages. However the cage price would be GREATER than Klubertanz (well, not including shipping anyway) once I added 14ga GAW floors and babysaver wire, and still have GBW sides/top. So I will just be patient and go with Klubertanz.
I have read about the 2 part feeder that does not require cutting cage wire. The only supplier I know of is West Coast Cages. As their website states they are closed for a relocation, does anyone happen to know when/if they will be back up and taking orders?
Thank you.
Somewhere I believe a solution to that leaking was posted. Basically "wrapping" the circumference of the bottle with spare wire mesh so it could not collapse out of round (and so maintain the vacuum required to prevent leakage). For the life of me I cannot remember WHERE I read that.
I agree. Although I like to term it "welfare" myself it is about respect and responsibility. Personally I will be purchasing a Crosman 1377 (had something similar as a child) soon and will practice until I am SURE I can have a "clean" kill. If I had a place outside I would use my Ruger 22/45 but...
As part of my own "education" before buying the rabbits I decided to purchase a one at the local farmer's market yesterday (gutted with heart/liver/kidneys). In trying to break it down today I learned some valuable lessons.
1) It apparently takes more than 28 hours to defrost a rabbit in the...
While I would prefer to use pens larger than 24x24 and 24x36 space is at a premium on a small city lot. Unless, of course, I put them in the basement (which just won't happen). I am trying to make space for four 24x36 growout pens for two does. I REALLY need to find a nice 5-10 acre plot to...
Yes, Miller makes cages for Rural King and other places. Klubbertanz makes their own. I am just going to assume whoever responded to me misread 1/2" as 1". I haven't ordered any cages yet as I am still trying to plan out my temporary rabbitry in my garage. Even going with 24" deep cages I still...
They MUST be wrong on that sizing. I have pictures of two "in use" cages at the local Rural King. It certainly APPEARS that the wire is 1x1/2. It is possible that the cages they use for selling rabbits are not the same as the ones they sell for rabbits? Still I do not like the 16 gauge for the...
How about cutting in new receptacles and finding NO insulation! I can see the old tarpaper that is underneath the original wood-lap siding (now covered with awful 60's metal siding the color of mud).
