    Rabbit with Creamy Mustard Sauce

OOOhhh... I like it. My favorite rabbit recipe is also mustard based. It's a french recipe that uses herbs de Provence and course ground mustard. Since I am dairy free, I've replaced the plain yogurt with dairy-free yogurt or sour cream and regular butter with plant-based butter. Otherwise...

    Meat mutts Upstate NY

I have a wonderful small herd of meat mutts that has done very well for me. But, we are moving in a few months and my freezer is already full. I'd LOVE to pass them on to someone who will appreciate them as the good producers they are. 2 proven does that will be 2 years old at the end of...

Any meat rabbit raisers living in ALASKA?

We are possibly moving to Alaska in the next 6-9 months. (all the way from central NY!) Just wondering if there is anyone out there who would like to offer some advice on the area and any challenges you face specifically for raising meaties up there. We won't be able to bring our current herd...

    First time writing a book

You don't have to avoid all similarities... how many stories have been told and retold through the years with only superficial changes and yet they are still loved? Sometimes you can improve on original ideas. Sometimes a simple twist in the setting and a surprise turn of the plot is enough to...

    New to meat rabbits.

I don't buy rabbit pellets, because the ones they sell out here all have corn and/or soy in them and I just don't want my rabbits to be eating those. So I feed alfalfa pellets that were meant for horses as the staple of their diet. I feed nursing mamas and kits rolled oats as a top-dressing...

Updated Pics! Are they blue or lilac based?

The harlie is a boy. Lol. All the good ones are, aren't they? He's been named Orion and for now, I plan to use him to replace his daddy (assuming he grows out nicely - currently he's one of the biggest kits) The chestnut that I kind of thought was chocolate is just so incredibly light...

Updated Pics! Are they blue or lilac based?

Thank you, Alforddm, for the pics. I can see that it should be obvious.. .. I was confused because I've never had a chestnut this "light." The blue chin in question is definitely chin, not opal. Not a lick of tan anywhere. She came out of a squirrel mutt doe that's carrying ej (but...

Updated Pics! Are they blue or lilac based?

They are a week old now. The chin is definitely chin, not agouti. I just couldn't tell if it's blue or lilac. It is looking blue to me at the moment. The harlequin, I still can't tell for sure. The colors are so mixed, that the grey looks lilac in most spots, but there are some darker areas...

Updated Pics! Are they blue or lilac based?

In a litter of five, I got two REWs, one suspected chocolate chestnut and two light kits. I thought they were blue chinchilla and blue harlequin...but now I'm thinking maybe lilac chin and lilac harlequin. I tried posting this on another rabbit board and got no opinions. They are 3 days old...

    Silvered Agoutis...

Yes, actually. :) Seeing their pictures actually encouraged me to go ahead and get a champagne buck, knowing I'd get whole litters of silvered chestnuts. And I'm quite happy with the result... BUT... I want to know what a silvered chinchilla will look like, and I can't find a photo of one...

    Surprise (somewhat) harlie genes

Can someone help me understand how the harlie gene "hides?" I have a doe that just had a litter 20 days ago. This doe had a dad that showed sparse harlie marks (which he got from a magpie daddy.) The doe from that litter and her littermates were visually clean. She's a squirrel and as far as...

Using my bunnies for advertising !

Super adorable! You should consider doing some photo shoots now for an Easter sale on your merchandise!

well I did it first butcher

Malocclusion isn't strictly genetic. It can also be caused by trauma. If they were my rabbits, I'd breed the same two buns together again and see if it pops up again. If the kit suffered unknown trauma (who knows, mama could have stomped on it as a kit or it could have gotten it's teeth...

    Silvered Agoutis...

I crossed a Champagne D'Argent with some of my lovely meat mutts and got 7 silvered chestnuts. They were gorgeous. But now I want to try to get other versions of silvered agoutis. I have the capability to work towards all colors of agouti and chinchilla (I have a squirrel doe carrying...

Sable x Lynx or Blue Chin

Eh... not very interesting possibilities, lol.

    Test breeding Silver Fox herd

Zass, Your photos just reminded me how much I love steels. I think I can see the silvery shimmer on the very bottom right photo. Pictures never do fur justice.

    Has anyone tried stunning?

I'm not sure why anyone would use a pellet gun inside a cage with other live rabbits. That's weird, and kind of cruel. We take each rabbit one at a time to another stall in the barn, set them on a bale of hay and pet them, then put the pellet gun right up against the back of the skull. Yes...

I don't suppose you have pictures?

    Has anyone tried stunning?

I don't like having a projectile stuck inside, either... but I just don't feed the head to any animals (and use lead-free pellets) The vital organs, except for the brain, are all intact.

    Test breeding Silver Fox herd

Does this mean, that in theory, a kit could be silvered while also displaying Steel? Anyone have/had a Steeled and Silvered kit before? I just looked at a litter of 6 week old Half Champagne kits this weekend. They were only just beginning to get some silvering, starting on their feet and...
