    Pelleted Feed

We have a local mill as well. They offer a 16% and a 21% rabbit feed. They are 50# bags for about $14.00. I suppose if you can't travel and store feed then you have to use what is available but It sure is nice to live in farming country and have any kind of feed or grain you want at a fair...

    How Many FPS?

I use A .22LR rifle and I think that is what I will stick with but I know its tricky to use firearms in Canada so I would suggest the Crossman Nitro Venom .22 pellet gun. I think its about 800 fps. whoops just saw the post about 500fps limit. I will look around to see whats out there for you

Let The Congratulations Begin... (meat rabbits)

:dinner: good job! It will get easier. I have 10 rabbits behind me now and I am down to 10 minutes per. I might try scissors on the next one right now I am using a filet knife and a small pair of pruning shears for the feet.

    Electric meat grinder, help??

I have the Kitchen aid grinder and its works great....But it is kind of low volume. The dies are about 2 inches in diameter maybe less. It takes along time to process the meat. I am going old school and getting a large hand cranking grinder, more work but overall it will be faster.

    Feeding well enough?

We have a local feed producer that sells a 21% pellet so I use that in small quantities. They get timothy hay with a small amount of alfalfa hay mixed in both morning and night. We have an arrangemaent with our local grocery store to get the discarded produce. I bring home 20 to 50 lb. bags of...

    Raising rabbits without freezer technology

I just love questions like this. Being one of those wacky preppers I think about this stuff alot. I would keep my current breeding sched. and trade and can as much as i could. I have purchased an old school wood cooking stove that I hope can achieve enough heat to pressure can my critters. I...

    Cooking Rabbit Properly

thus far I have only been doing a coarse grind with some pork and made sausage. I don't know if that is a fair way to judge the flavor of rabbit but it sure worked out well for me. No matter what I do The kid won't touch it, but my wife and I like it fine. Slip it in some tacos

    is it really more expensive?

I live quite a distance my self but I have to drive by it every day because of my commute. It's worth a look for sure

    is it really more expensive?

well based on a story I heard on the radio about food waste in grocery stores and restaurants. I talked to the produce manager at our local grocery store and asked if they allow people with animals to take the scraps and trimmings. He told me absolutely yes! He even asked what I raise and what...

    Nest Box

looks great to me. I did not have any "cling on" babies so i think the hieght is good. I did however put 1/2 x 1/2 wire for the bottom with straw. I thought it would be cleaner.

    Fodder Question - Pregnant/Nursing Doe

My rabbits get fodder, hay, pellets and various grees from the veggie garden. The rabbits prefer their food in that order. fodder and hay would be nice but i think you should throw in some pellets too. get them used to eating different things ( carefully ) but fodder and hay combo is good base...

    How Many Pounds of Feed

I have cut my pellet feed by half or more by feeding barley fodder. The rabbits love it! They dont eat the root mat all the way down, but they eat most of it. A 50 lb bag will produce over 250 lb of food. That's 250 lbs of food for about $12.00. Between fodder, hay, pellets and treats my rabbits...

Starting a free rabbit program for homesteaders

Great Idea! I am also going in that direction, but I was planning on implementing that after the you know what hits the fan. I live in a very rural area but most of my neighbors have horses and most dont even grow gardens. Sounds like you will be ahead of the curve and getting people self...

i am still quite new, but I wish that the babies were not so dang cute! I am having doubts about my ability to pop them in the head and eat um. self sufficiancy is hard. I will get through it, no regrets so far.
