    Okay... retraining dogs?

For ours we used "uh-uh" for you're starting to do something momma doesn't like. NO! was reserved for very bad. Both our dogs and cats respond to it and have learned the difference between momma's birds or other critter and outside not-the-momma's critters. Consistency is the biggest key. And...

    Wheel vs. Drop Spindle

Here's a link to Betty Chu's site on her nest box management. http://bettychuenglishangora.com/nestbox/index.html She's one of the top English Angora breeders in the country and a very nice lady. I had the pleasure of meeting her last summer and have exchanged a number of emails with her.

    Help in identifying plants?

Perseverance is the key. Once you get it on the run you have to keep chasing it until it's dead. When we moved back to the house I grew up in the only thing surviving in one flower bed was St. Johns Wort (the ornamental one, not the medicinal one). It had spread everywhere, jumped the...

    Help in identifying plants?

Cool little factoid about clematis. Thanks. I've never had any problem with it. I wonder if different varieties are more irritating then others. You'd be surprised at how many don't think of or even know about extension offices. I did the master gardeners program, and one of the things you're...

    Help in identifying plants?

Hmmm...my reply earlier got eaten. #6 is sweet autumn clematis. Pretty sure the morning glory is the domestic toxic one (at least the seeds) I would try your local extension office or plant nurseries. They can usually help id stuff. Good luck. Shannon

    Sneezes

Does he do it any other time then when he's licking his ice bottle or drinking? Sounds almost like he hasn't learned the whole drink it, don't breath it thing yet. Shannon

Hedge Witchery and "Simples" (Long and Rambling)

Nope...not old crones :) Unless 36 is old. I'm hoping to have time to get an herbalism certificate this winter. I can't wait to be able to start a permanent garden. I've done one at each place I've lived for the last 5 years, but I keep moving. Will be nice to "settle down" Shannon

Ever feel like you're the only one?

It certainly does. The thing is this used to be fairly common. Kinda sad. We still have a LOT of details to work out as well as the legal stuff, but it's should work well. It helps that most of what we want to do overlaps and the property is large enough for where we diverge. We also have a...

    GMO-free rabbit feed

I think there's at least 4 of us in the WA/OR area. I'm outside Portland. We'll just have to have our own :band: Shannon

Ever feel like you're the only one?

Definitely not the only one. We're working on sharing property with friends. People think we're completely nuts. When we go through the "why" part of the conversation (economics, work load, built in animal sitters etc) they can understand it logically...but DEAR GOD!! SHARE!!? It's just not done...

    Wheel vs. Drop Spindle

Very cool. What kind of wheel did you get? I had better luck with the drop spindle when I switched from a bottom whorl to a top whorl. I found the balance was better at least for me. Shannon

    Is this right?

I found the following links helpful. They're for angora's, but most of the colors probably cross over, names might be different though. http://www.bumblebeeacres.com/EnglishAn ... Colors.htm http://bettychuenglishangora.com/genetics/index.html http://www.angorahouse.com/angora%20rab ...

    Wheel vs. Drop Spindle

I will occasionally pull out the DROP spindle and fight with it, but I don't like it's balance. Hopefully I'm going to get one turned this weekend and see if I like it better. I prefer my wheel though. Faster/easier for me. I do like the portability of the spindle though. I've spun angora top...

My god. Their ears are almost as big as they are. They're just so cute and getting cuter. Shannon

    put down T2....

That sucks. I've been there with birds. I got hit with a virus and over the space of 3 months lost about 50 birds. It was devastating, but I got through it and you will too. Hang in there.

    Parasite prevention

Will rabbits eat garlic? Would it be safe for them? I know of at least one sheep ranch that uses garlic exclusively to treat/prevent parasites. I can hunt up the link if anyone's interested. Shannon
