Thank you so much! You put shelves inside the birting box as kits grow? Those are much larger than I thought necessary, but I'd like to give them all more space anyway, joining cages and adding new ones. I'm wondering now if I lost my 1st litter because kindling box was too small for momma.

I need to build kindling boxes and I was recently advised to provide all of them with hide boxes. Trouble is dimensions given would make boxes that covered 1/2 the cage floor. My does are about 18" long stretched out and relaxing. The buck is older and larger. So how large do kindling and...

They were all dead this morning. I'll give her 1 more chance in 6 weeks to breed. If that doesn't work I got an American Blue doe to replace her. It's easy to get caught up in this. I like rare breeds of livestock and I believe I'll wind up with purebred Silver Fox ad American Blue

I am in the process of losing a litter, momma isn't very interested in kits. They are in cages in an 8 x 20 shed, lots of open windows covered in hardware cloth. No predator can get in but lots of predators live here. Would predators prowling around the shed cause bunny distress?

Mine like comfrey and bark from fruit tree pruning, fresh pulled grass. They rejected several kinds of fruit, won't eat carrots. I understand too much comfrey is toxic, but you can't trust everything you read on the internet!

For now the good news is the kits are toasty warm. Mom seems interested in nest box. Seems like a little optimism is in order.

I live in Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, would like to find breedable American Chinchillas, 1 buck 2 does. They'd probably have to be shipped. The only VA breeders I know of are 5 hours away near coast, too far for me to drive. Thanks for any help.
