    Babies!!!

I had 3 does kindle in January. One had her kits on the wire, and didn't pull any fur until a full day after she kindled. I picked them up off the wire and put them in the nest with a hot water bottle and by the next evening she was finally pulling fur and mothering like a champ - she just...

Hi, I am Julia from the UK, I am happy to have found Rabbit Talk.

I’d love to see your setup. I love where I live (Arizona USA, near Phoenix) but I have to keep my rabbits in a climate controlled shed most of the year! So I always enjoy seeing other people’s setups whether cage, hutch or colony

Info on Moringa (drumstick tree) regarding rabbits from www.feedipedia.org

We live in the low desert of Arizona and based on a consultation with Edge of Nowhere Farm we will be planting moringa come monsoon season. They grow great here, will make excellent animal fodder, and can be overwintered with minimal effort. Big wins all around as far as I’m concerned! (You can...

Cabela's Pro Series DC Meat Grinder #12

Love the mental image. It’s so true!

    Canned Rabbit

getting ready to process 19 grow-outs over the next couple of weekends (start tomorrow), glad to see this confirmation of my intent to can. I don't have enough freezer space for all 19 and I like to have meat on the shelf in case we ever lose the freezer so this is definitely happening.

Cabela's Pro Series DC Meat Grinder #12

Same here, but I stopped grinding the bones after our oldest dog passed away, now they’re lucky if I even cut the meat off the bone lol. It got to be too much work and I figured that if they caught the chicken wild, they weren’t going to wait around for someone to grind the bones for them.😂...

Cabela's Pro Series DC Meat Grinder #12

I would think it should do most of them especially for a 8-12 week rabbit. I have a Weston #8 and we used it to grind up chicken wings which it handled beautifully. I haven't tried grinding rabbit with it yet but I can't see it being a prblem. This Cabella's model has similar specs to mine...

When feeding rabbits to dogs how to stop the dog from going crazy

Just to say, at my house we have now 2 dogs and even though they are family dogs and my husband usually refers to them as "our" dogs, we all here know they are MY dogs primarily. They listen to me, follow my commands, but are less inclined to listen to him, as he hasn't spent the time and effort...

Need advice for new meat source

I'm so glad this forum exists, I learn here every day. I will have to pay attention to what gets eaten vs wasted if I manage to actually hatch any of the eggs and figure it out from there. It'll be my first go with brand new babies (my first covey I got as adults from a friend, and the current...

Please help me with my baby bunnies (GRAPHIC)

I'm so sorry about the losses! That's tough! As far as feed waste I have an idea. I cut a piece of 1/2 x 1 cage wire to fit inside the mouth of each feeder. I leave the wire long on the back so it pokes out the holes, I bend it a little so it stays in place (I have feeders from KW, they have...

Need advice for new meat source

interesting about the feed, my quail get 20% pellets and eat them just fine. And I started the chicks on crumble and they all grew great, never a problem with it. I must've lucked out! I have 15 eggs incubating now, should hatch on/around 3/10, we'll see if I wind up having to sift fines or...

Need advice for new meat source

I keep Coturnix quail and rabbits. I do not find quail and rabbit to be similar in any way as far as taste - for starters, quail is a 100% dark meat animal. I only have .83 acre so large livestock are out of the question but at some point I'd like to add a dairy animal, been leaning toward goat...

    Liver Dutch Baby

I used this recipe from Ash Eats and added 1 tsp baking powder and some vanilla extract and made it into a Dutch Baby! I added a little allulose syrup to the blender, too, and topped with sweetened whipped cream and a drizzle more of allulose syrup. (Any old syrup would work, I choose allulose...

Affordable Rabbit Cage Bulk Options (Advice Needed)

I attached gutters and coroplast boards under my cages to direct the waste to buckets/basins, it's working out quite well. My buns are in an insulated shed w/ solid floor bc it's Arizona - we have months straight of temps over 95 and last summer we had 6 weeks straight over 110 degrees, so I...

Affordable Rabbit Cage Bulk Options (Advice Needed)

My cages are from Hostile Hare. He's local to me but ships and shipping looks to be free. IDK if his pricing is in line with your budget but thought I'd offer the link anyway.

What caused your interests in rabbits?

My interest is for meat. I saw the shelves go close to bare and the prices skyrocket in COVID and decided that if supply chains are going to be that fragile, I'd better do all I can to ensure my family is covered when it comes to meat. We have quail and rabbits at this point, and eventually I'd...

First time doe had TEN KITS last night!

I appreciate this so much, truly. It’s easy to get caught up in “but I’m not doing it perfectly the way The Internet says I should”

First time doe had TEN KITS last night!

All twenty six kits are alive and well, it's kind of nuts. The day after the kits were born on the wire and we put them with the water bottle, I moved all the kits into different nest boxes (I really hate the wire ones from Bass Equipment which is what they were initially in). What do you know...

First time doe had TEN KITS last night!

Update on wire babies, they’re all still alive. I didn’t check any closer but I did look enough to see that they aren’t fat like they’ve recently been fed so I’m still iffy on their chances. AND Doe 3, Terra, had very freshly kindled what looks like 10 more kits. I didn’t get too close with...
