    Show cages

I wanted to start showing some of my rabbits this year, and after doing research online I have decided that it will be much easier on my budget to make my own show cages. Does anyone know if there are regulations on how big or small the cages have to be? What is an average size for show cages? I...

Mama Abandoned Litter Hand raising attempt

I've never had to deal with orphaned rabbits before, so I'm just guessing here. But when our cat had a surprise litter on us (apparently she snuck outside without us knowing) she abandoned the oldest two babies in favor of the youngest three. We attempted to bottle-feed the two orphans, but with...

    Writing out the "code"...

Everyone seems to have their own system. A lot of people just write the main five in order (A, B, C, D, and E) and only add the others if they apply. Others write all of them. I tend to use only the ones that apply to my breed. Since I raise French Angoras right now (used to be Satins) I don't...

    What to breed?

Could still work if you breed the blue tort to a black or chocolate based agouti. Since the dilute gene is recessive, the babies could turn out orange but carry a "hidden" dilute gene. But you'd run the chance of ending up with smutty oranges, dilute oranges, and completely non-orange rabbits as...

    What to breed?

Black Tort is best for a really rich color. But chocolate would also work. Blue Tort and lilac tort usually cause the dilute version of orange (not sure what it's called in lops).

    What to breed?

Agoutis and torts can produce orange babies when bred together. But if both parents aren't carrying the wideband gene, the orange color will look smutty.

    Chestnut Agouti x Tort ???

Thank you! :D I'll definitely post a picture of the litter when it arrives.

    Seriously, don't laugh

It's a shame you have to cull them. They're so gorgeous, even if they are genetic oddballs. ;) I'd take them home with me in a second if I didn't live halfway across the country... and, ya know, already own more rabbits than I know what to do with. But I completely understand wanting to...

    Homemade Rabbit Treat Recipes

Olafthebunny, Here's a really simple recipe that doesn't include any fresh fruit. (Just applesauce.) I found this one on a different rabbit raiser's forum. 1/4 cup applesauce 1/4 cup ground pellets (or pellet dust from the bottom of the bag) 1/4 cup hay fines (again, what's left at the bottom...

    Rabbit Tricks

That's cool that you were able to teach him all those tricks! Maybe, with a little patience, he'll learn high five again. I had a Netherland Dwarf/Lionhead mix several years ago who would play hide-and-seek and tag-you're-it. He was my smartest rabbit by far and I was able to teach him quite a...

    Homemade Rabbit Toy idea!

:goodpost: That's so cool! I'll have to try this for my junior buck -- he gets bored so easily.

    Silver Fox Breeding Trio

Welcome to RabbitTalk! It's always best to continue feeding the same food that the breeder has been giving them. Then you can slowly switch them over to the food you want them to be on. Rabbits have delicate digestive systems, so you don't want to upset their diet too abruptly. It also helps...

Blue torts - why so different?

The phenotype for blue torts is: aaB?C?ddee I'm not sure what causes the variations in how it appears.

Is this doe too old to breed?

Will that cause complications when the doe tries to give birth?

    Cage Divider Idea....

That sounds like a great idea! I was trying to find a way of dividing my rabbits' cages without blocking ventilation. I'll have to give this a try.

    Considering an Angora...

I don't know about other Angora breeds, but I have several French Angoras and grooming them twice a week is plenty to keep their coats nice. (Although I usually do it every other day to reduce the number of mats in their fur.) They are very gentle and friendly. My youngest buck LOVES to cuddle...
