    Adorable "Spoon Eared" Rabbits???

Well, I'm glad I did not think those short ears were cute. Of course, they are the complete opposite of my elops' ears....I also have a basset hound. 'nuff said.

    Nachositas baby in her womb

LOL! I was watching the same thing on a bunny today! I only have one doe that I can see the kits move. I've always wanted goats, but we decided not to go there for now...which means I need to see lots of pics of yours!

    Other successful meat breeds

My favorite meat breed so far has been the Giant Chins. They are usually 4.5 to 5 lbs at 8 weeks. Most people get scared off from them because of the "giant", but many of them are only 12 -14 lbs as adults. They do not eat more than the Americans I used to raise for meat also. They are a...

    Other successful meat breeds

Hmmm, I had seriously considered Lilacs for my rare meat breed in the past, but did not know they came in rainbow. I heard they were gentle and great mothers. May have to rethink this again....

What is the difference between fawn and cream?

I was having this discussion recently on facebook...I think mini lops use the same color guide as Elops and Flops. "Cream" is a creamy beige with blue eyes, "Fawn" is golden with brown eyes, "Orange" is bright orange with brown eyes. I did not know this, but "Red" is also recognized in the...

    First Show and Some Questions

"Sure, I know my lines still need a bit of work, you can never stop learning and improving, but even if I get docked for something or don't take home first, it will still be very valuable information to take and apply to my herd of what else I need to be looking for." That's my main reason for...

I may be getting a giant chin

The babies often have brown looking fur on the tips, but will silver up at their first molt. They should not be chestnut...they are mixed if they are.

I may be getting a giant chin

I still have some GCs. They are totally different from the elops. Even when I bring them in the house, they will stay in a two foot square, but the elops will have the whole house explored in a matter of minutes. They are still and quiet most of the time, but i have seen a momma or two who...

    ground venison uses?

We usually grind a whole older doe every year for our meat...I can't imagine living without it-LOL! We use it in place of beef for all our red meat meals. I have also started canning the ground meat to leave more room in the freezers for the steaks, roasts, etc from younger deer.

Rabbit meals thread- how often is rabbit on YOUR menu?

Adapted from Greene Acres Old Fashioned Cookery Book Start with 1lb dried white beans, cooked. Add about 6 cups of chicken broth. Brown 1 lb of ground white meat in olive oil with two chopped onions, 3 cloves garlic, cilantro (optional), a 2 tsp cumin, 1 tsp parsley, and salt and pepper. Add...

Rabbit meals thread- how often is rabbit on YOUR menu?

Let's see...in the past week we had oven fried rabbit, rabbit & dumplings, and white chili with ground rabbit. Usually don't have it quite that often. I also canned 8 pints of rabbit so I expect we will be eating it more and more.

How do YOU handle deposits and sales?

I don't do deposits anymore. I do first come, first serve, meet me at a show or somewhere near me with cash only. I keep it really simple...and that's the way I like it. Of course, I sell very few bunnies per year. I do try to stay in touch with buyers, if possible though.

    Rabbitry plans for 2014

We hope to finish our home made flush system (hubs had a rotator cuff repair, so probably won't be finished until spring). I will add five more cages to the main rabbitry, and maybe add another double hutch in the yard. I've added French lops, and they may be replacing the Giant Chins. I am...
